I cannot edit anymore, so I add this: This is the case in a distribution (Arch) that has effectively taken the maintainer's advice into account, not the reverse.

Yep. Almost (it uses a wrapper script instead of a symlink), but it ends up being such a silly situation all the same... Thanks for pointing it out though, I was not aware!

The current contents (not joking): (this is why the situation is crazy) #!/bin/sh cmd=${0##\*/} echo "$cmd: warning: $cmd is obsolescent; using grep -E" >&2 exec grep -E "$@"

This should be the top comment lol. Such an insanity... They are wrapper scripts that precisely enable to obey to the advice the warning is giving, yet the warning ends up advising not using the wrapper...

They (the maintainer) should make the behavior of `grep` depending on the name of the executable. Then one could simply do a `ln -s grep egrep` and be done with it.

Yes. And we also know that vegetarian people's digestive tract becomes longer after switching from a meat diet, and the reverse also happens if they go back to meat. So there is definitely adaptation going on, and it's not at all

The pipeline operation would require rich individuals, presumably educated, a fortiori if they are so invested in ecology. Do you think they would release millions of tons of CO2-equivalent of methane in the air? Moreover they would need a

Yeah car dealer arson, allrighty. Did you notice that two deep sea major pipelines have been blown up recently? Do you think that compares? A car dealer can be set on fire by a single individual , and even one in a situation of extreme

No. Because there (currently) is no such thing as an "eco-terrorist organisation" that is not just an eco-activist organisation (funded by donations and governmental subsidies) being disparaged by an opponent. Or do you have examp

They did that so that it gets replaced by renewables (but it did not go according to the plan...). And in all honesty, between renewables and nuclear (fission), renewables are clearly a better investment.

Yep. Sadly this is the mindset of Putin, and why he cares so little about GHG... I'm sure the Russian population does not think like that, but it's not as if they had their say...

They have no incentive to do actions that damage the environment: Ecology activist organizations are funded by donations, which would dry up completely at the instant they are proven to be involved in such a disastrous leak.

No, the business side was Trump's side. "Sustainability" (but not in the planet-preserving / extinction-event-avoiding meaning) of fossil fuel over the next century is not at all a problem, if we wished so.

EU and the USA have no interest to provoke methane leaks, as it is a very highly greenhouse effect gas. Putin, on the other hand, does not care.

Why is it so hard to think about releasing them in a forest or in a field? They don't eat wheat or corn, so that would be a solution, also they don't eat trees, so the forest is safe. They will always find what they need in a fore
