I've thought about why this has been the most stable system experience for me, and I think it comes down to simplicity: my linux system just has far fewer moving parts than my mac did (I can read the process list and mostly understand

Agreed that the MS example is more egregious and that both should be illegal, but moreover, these tech companies need a massive culture shift -- both MS and Apple invest an extraordinary amount of effort in reducing user freedom / owne

macOS does something similar -- when I was setting up my parents' machines I discovered that if you start using not-Safari it starts sending notifications telling you how great the latest Safari is, which is very irritating.

Same, I was skimming through looking for some pointer as to what this is, but all I got was that they thought it was hard maintaining OSS (which it is, of course) -- none the wiser as to what it was until the parent comment summarised it.

In order to get around some of the issues here we try to have lots of micro-PRs rather than large ones. Often this means doing small refactors in their own PRs, letting them be reviewed separately, and using them as the basis for the actual

IDK if this is still the case, but I remember a few years ago it was shown that Chrome was just storing your passwords in plain text on your machine.

I keep a list of things in teuxdeux (teuxdeux.com) which I quite like, but also frequently use a little "list notebook" I keep in my pocket because there's something about pen and paper I find stimulates my neurons better.

No-one seriously believed Ukraine was going to join NATO, it wasn't even on the cards. This is just a false excuse trumped up by Putin's apologists. Listen to what he says: he claims Ukraine is a fake state and that it is really p

I suspect that they thought this was a clever way of allowing tenant applications to host their own configuration somewhere which the application would fetch and use. It's a whitelabelled application by the sounds of it. Pretty shock

I have never written anything in F# and I have no familiarity with the language, so I'm speaking more from my (IMO quite basic) familiarity with Haskell and Clojure, and most especially the former. In Haskell composition is just such a

I understand why the Hack-style pipes are probably a better choice for JS as we find it and its ecosystem, it's just that, having switched from my main languages being JS/TS and Python to now using Haskell most of the time, this c

This will be a great thing for Javascript. One thing I noticed, however, was that the main arguments for Hack-style pipes over F# pipes really highlight the difference between functional languages like Haskell and languages like JS: in Hask

It's interesting, I often see a couple of traits (some mutually exclusive, some not) of PeopleWhoCode(TM): 1/ people who come to it later in life, for whom it's mostly a profession; 2/ people who start very early due to
