I've contracted remotely for 10 years with US companies while living in different countries. I've never had a US based legal entity and it hasn't been a problem. It does make things slightly more complicated for them though a

Be careful of misaligned incentives though. A PE invested in a company (not a software company) I worked with recently, the PE placed execs and those execs proceeded to: - professionalize the company by switching everything to SAP and outso

In Asia, Line seems to be doing well selling stickers which I guess can be a way to monetize a chat app.

It's also to create gender equality in the work place. If there's only maternity leave then hiring a woman of childbearing age has a higher risk for an employer than hiring a man. This leads to discrimination in the workplace with

I was going to comment on that, I'd love to have a 3 days weekend but only if one of those weekends was to reconnect with my wife without the toddler.

The European system is not the panacea you make it out to be. I'm French, I lived abroad for most of my professional life, when I came back to France after 14 years of living abroad, no banks would give me access to mortgages, I also w

That's because it doesn't. It's an optional feature, the feature shows the favicon for the domain names on your contact list. In order to do that, the app retrieves the favicon from each domain in your contact list. It does

But in that case, the app creator would have a list of domains which I think is objectively worse from a privacy perspective... I'm honestly a bit annoyed that OP is the top comment on HN when it exaggerates the impact of this feature.

Well, he's been stumbling in the dark and decided to try this but I don't think it's necessarily a reasonable guess. In hindsight, it's easy to look at this commit and see that as being the reason, but if I were the dev,

Well read further about the background, in this case, that specific feature doesn't share the contact list, it just queries domain name. it's optional and anyone asking to show favicon for domain names in contact should expect to

Well if you receive an email from any of those, your email client requests something from those domain names (which a lot of email clients will do by default). So it'd also show in the firewall logs etc.. So that favicon feature should

Which HTTP server? the getFavicon method requests the favicon from each domain, so any one email provider only gets a single request for a favicon. It doesn't send all the contact info to any single server. So reading the code, say you
