This needs to be better understood/accepted by startups, but it's a bitter pill to swallow for many entrepreneurs. I wrote a book on growth hacking and now often get requests (sometimes casual, sometimes formal) on how a startup c

Restaurants are "high margin"? I don't think restaurants pervasively discount because they can afford to - I think it's more to do with it being a brutally competitive industry. That said you may be right in that the typ

The scary part of this isn't that they were denied access. It's that they were denied with no opportunity for appeal. As an entrepreneur this is probably one of the number 1 nightmare scenarios: one day you're in business, th

Yikes. It's statements like these that make me happy / proud to be a bootstrapped and (moderately) profitable "lifestyle" business.

For a long time I went back and forth on whether I should do a freemium plan for my SaaS startup[1]. It was a difficult decision considering many of my competitors are freemium and I see they enjoy certain benefits from that e.g. a large us

Oh I'm absolutely sure it attracted attention, that was never under dispute. My post is simply saying that I find it distasteful. Its efficacy as a means to get clicks is quite obvious. There is an ethical line however, otherwise we&#x

I'd be very curious to know who actually is the end-user of patio11's software. Is it really the business owner? Or is it the salon/dentist receptionist. Because if it's the latter, then nobody lost their job - he just e

You're certainly free to interpret it as such. What we find distasteful is inherently subjective after all. Designing ads is a tricky one (and really, I have never had much of a result from this type of paid advertising so I don't
