The funny thing is a lot of smaller startups are seeing just how absurdly expensive these service are, and are just switching back to basic bare metal server hosting. For 99% of businesses it's a wasteful, massive overkill expense. You

I've got a family member that works on production at Lucas, Unreal is still very much a mainstay and not going anywhere. They're actually expanding their use of it with more virtual sets, mainly because they're now leasing th

Long term I dont think they _want_ Vision to be a breakthrough device. It's only supposed to be a stepping stone towards a true AR/MR device. The ultimate and likely not possible for decades goal is a contact lense based solution.

I don't disagree that there are going to be a loud minority who genuinely did deserve a ban, and I did read the links, as I mentioned before though the links were only provided as a 'this is all I can provide short of you trying i

The true cost of a Pi these days can end up being more than a low-end mini pc once you add in all the extras you need to make it work. Power supply, sd card, etc. For education you'll need to throw in keyboard, mouse, speakers, possibl

Not sure what your point is there. Owning the commercial arm is pretty irrelevent. Most businesses are owned by a holding company that does nothing more than file a return once a year.

They shifted focus to B2B, with all inventory over the pandemic going to those customers. Despite the chip shortage ending a long time ago they continued to push the line that they were still suffering from it. Later they confirmed in a few

The non-profit arm is a tiny insignificant part of their business now. They stopped being education and charity focused during covid and are only really interested in their B2B customers these days.

Ah, this may explain their abandonment of the 'hacker' community and weird hostility towards them over the last few years. They've gone from a fun project and education focused company who was mostly operating under their non

I'm mostly surprised Windows defaults to rounded. I know their UI is a complete shambles but they seemed to be leaning towards non-rounded user interfaces over the last few years.

I'd disagree that its a tradeoff of weight. The macbook air is an incredibly light weight laptop yet still pushes 18hrs battery life on the 13" model, even the 14" pro at 22 hours is still lighter than most laptops. The weigh

Are there any plans to offer larger batteries and/or improve battery efficiency? From what I've read battery life is still an issue many seem to be having. With the greatest respect it's 2024, a laptop should be capable of 8

OOf thats a tough sell, two hours is pretty pathetic. I can't imagine how any laptop maker can be selling a laptop in 2024 with anything shorter than 8 hours and keep a straight face. This surely has to be a software issue, I can'

I wonder why they've not instead pushed people towards a 'real' cold storage service like AWS Glacier. IIRC that uses a mixture of DVD/Bluray automation and for deep storage uses LTO tape drives. Solves most of the energ

They've been on AWS since before eu-west-2 was added, it's still not at the scale of eu-west-1. Capacity issues are still a thing (but getting much better), and only recently have they become pretty much feature parallel.

Yes agree with you there, static storage requirements are less of a concern with regards to the weight, which is probably why we'll see sodium batteries take over some of this space. For primary applications (cars, portable devices, et

Slight correction, ITV made the series Mr Bates vs the Post Office, not Netfix (no idea if its being shown internationally on Netflix under license however).

So to sum up, pretty meaningless then. If its not higher capacity + lower weight it's not an alternative.
