This article talks a lot about what the salaryman gives to the company (ie 60h a week) but not what the company does. A salaryman is usually set for life. And his company will help him with everything: finding housing, medical expenses, leg

You're right. Let's completely change how humanity has done it for centuries so you and your friends don't spend 32sec looking up "current time in X" 2 or 3 times a day. You would still need to do the effort of unde

Can't access the resume, is it in German or in English? I don't know how Germany works but in a lot of European countries using an English resume would be a big no no.

Exactly - there is no way to win. America is vilified whether it is interventionist and also when it is isolationist. They shouldn't believe like the world's police, but also they have to stop all conflicts everywhere.

The US would definitely be more efficient with fewer timezones. Really we should find a way to remove at least one between the 2 coasts. United, no, but the US is not the EU. America is united by default, Europe divided.

You would still need to remember to not call your buddy in LA at your "8am" when in NYC. Now you need to take into account what a 9-to-5 translates to for all parts of the world. Solves nothing.

In the author's defense, it is a bit unexpected that people would miss the point so much that they would turn it into a debate about how many daily meals you should have.

Of course you get let go immediately. Who wants a fired employee to linger for 2 weeks? That would be an awkward half month. Otoh, companies usually pay a minimum of 2 weeks salary.

I dont have a link handy but I remember seeing a study showing that movie/TV trailers that spoil the content (ie basically show you a 3min summary of the movie) were more successful in getting people to the theater. People seem to want

Interesting how some argue that a book is nothing special and here we have "an intimate bond". How is taking notes less interactive than writing on the book itself? Both happen at the same time.

I'm probably a weirdo, but the "write in books" is a massive no no for me. I can't imagine writing in a book (unless it's a total turd, but I assume we're talking about good, insightful books). I do take notes,

I got to say this arm race is interesting to watch. I wonder if we'll reach a point where YT asks viewers to pass a captcha at the end of an ad to prove that they watched it before getting back to their video.

I sympathize. As I said my kids school doesn't use screens and has a strict no media/screen policy at home. And yet, some families don't comply and a few kids will bring these convos to the play yard. Even if it's a mino

But that's not what you described. You talked about a 6 months non compete, and then potentially longer in exchange for 50% salary. Not everybody wants/can move to a cheaper place. Finally, as mentioned in any messages here, engin

Yes the 3 months notice is legally enforced in France with a few cases where it can be waived - including both the employee ans employer agreeing to skip it. Note that this notice goes both ways: when an employee resigns or is let go.

After how many counter examples do we go beyond "almost no one"? It's like opinion articles saying "many people think blabla" where "many" is 3 tweets.
