Thanks for posting this. I have about 500 very old MTG cards (pre'95). Had no idea they were worth anything. Going to sort them now :) Probably all shit ones though.

To be honest, and I say this with a massive cringe, after 20 years of Unix I'm more productive with PS in a couple of months! It's quite refreshingly easy to use and I genuinely had no idea how much time I was wasting on parsing s

Agreed on that point. I sold a dead logic board 2010 MBP for nearly that in 2013!

That's somewhat subjective. Personally I wouldn't pay more than $300 a machine and consider $1299 to be pretty extortionate amounts of cash considering the rate of depreciation. Hey everyone I just worked 2x the time to pay for so

Hey if you think that's bad, we went one worse! This might make you feel better but it makes me envy your position. In the effort to integrate two distinct factions in the business, they decided the best approach was not to find one ho

Does disk encryption on an SD card cause write amplification at all? I've killed two decent genuine Sandisk SD cards already in under a year and would worry that this would blast them even quicker even if it is desirable to encrypt t

You're right but wrong. That's all OK in theory but not in reality having migrated various Java EE gubbins on a project. It's a rat's nest of supposed standards and interop that doesn't amount to much at the end of

I was fortunate enough to be broken during a tonsilectomy. I woke up and couldn't stand anything sweet at all and it made me feel instantly sick. It has baffled many a doctor but they reckon its down to the anaesthetic and/or oxyg

Cynical but perhaps right. All the sales shit I see is about conversion rate. If its only a tiny step away from accidental to make a purchase then your effort to make that sale is low. Also if the value is low, impulse purchases are likely.

I think its just that everyone who doesn't run a mail server hasn't had to deal with this shit so finds it hard to believe that their precious email providers are being a pain in the butt. That is until you get a court summons aft

Having had delivery problems to gmail for years, I couldn't agree more. However Yahoo are an order of magnitude worse when it comes to delivering email. If they decide you aren't their friend, they send back an error code with a U

I could think of a million other reasons than someone asking questions in this case. I agree with the entitlement sentiment however. I know no one else who uses .Net who has ever contributed anything other than whining and issue reports to

Some replies... 1. Yes. When you have 220 people to herd, some of whom are contractors, there is inevitably a probability of a bad egg or two. Human personalities don't scale well from direct experience unfortunately. 2. Will investiga

Unpopular opinion here but we're using SVN here on a large project. No intention of changing it. Why? 1. Deterministic "whodunnit" as we have AD integrated with. That is needed when you have 220 people using a repo. 2. Partia

Incidentally bugger all in most cases I reckon unless you're working in trading. There's a bit of a vacuum at the moment so standards are low. Most orgs are willing to drag you through the relevant training. In all my years of wor

Pay is good. If you're good at it, it's pretty amazing. You can pull £650/day on contract if you know your shit. If you don't but can drive Visual Studio, £400/day is easy.
