Have you ever raised a support case with MS properly I.e. Not via feedback/connect? Your can speak to someone who knows their shit pretty sharpish and get a fix to you. Most of the time this is same day stuff. As for Chrome, the open w

Just buy two shit ones. If you can't afford to replace it, can you afford to own it? Never rely on vendor support; Motorola UK taught me that. Two Lumia 630s here.

Perhaps a huge coincidence but I pretty much wrote this framework in C# in 2004 (including rules engine) and was using it for mobile devices (wince/symbian). We abandoned it after 4 years for a simple CQRS system with event bus (before

That kills me for the first 5 minutes of every VS install I do as it's turned on by default. Regardless of that however, edit and continue is not that useful when you have unit tests and program to interfaces.

Not terrible price: http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/power/hardware/s812l-s822l/bro... Comparable to shonky-ass x64 HP kit. Perhaps I'm crazy but I'd love to see Windows Server on this as well. A

I'm not abandoning it because of systemd specifically but the whole Linux boot/init stuff is hell and the platform is death by a thousand papercuts when something goes snap. That's reason enough on its own. I recently had to

That's solving the wrong end of the problem, which is the big problem of half of these devices. For example, Halogen hobs turn off if there are no pans for a period of time. Much cleaner solution.

Great points about robustness. For the first time ever I had to deal with xargs and find together last week. Bear in mind I've been using Unix for about 20 years now. Telling one command to null delimit stuff and another to parse the n

Fine. You do know about availability sets right? Plus we were on AWS before and that went down. We had our own racks in a DC on Linux+Java before and that went down. Shit happens. Architectural decisions are the way around it. Bar one unusu

Azure PaaS and VS. Azure allows us to sidestep a lot of iteration 0 and devops stuff and just hit the metal. VS is just pretty good at what it does.

Some of us are quite happy to pay for it. And yes we did get an audit and had to fork out a couple of average developers' salaries but to be honest we're fucking rolling in cash thanks to them, so meh. Time to market is stupid low

The NHS projects are a little more complicated than gov.uk front end implementation. Have you seen any of the care pathway workflows? We're talking 128 page documents integrating police, social services etc as well, just for a birth. T

Doesn't surprise me. I posted some questions on their self-congratulatory blog post on why they were using tax payers money to write their own front end proxy in golang rather than use nginx/apache. My post was simply deleted. Obv
