Every time I've paid attention to a "talented" person what I've found is some quirk in their personality/history that gives them an intense interest in the subject. That interest drives them to practice the subje

Can you be specific of the context you are interested in? On modern machines, a pixel is just a set of three numbers indicating how much red, blue and green light should be shown at a particular point. Ex: {0.75 red, 0.0 blue, 0.5 green} f

A lot of the design of the Apple I stemmed from Woz’s experience in arcade videogame hardware. In particular he was famously great at taking other people’s designs and refactoring them to have equivalent functionality using fewer components

So, everyone needs to go back and watch the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series. In that world, pretty much everyone has a few enhancements, visual and audio overlay options are pretty much universal. Having your equipment ha

Not really. If you are running a car repair shop or hospital, it’s difficult to derive ongoing value from the cars/people you fixed up in the past. The tricky thing is that code shops hold on to their code and often code shop managers

The book goes into great detail about programming VGA GPUs. MCGA Mode 13, “Mode X” and a few other variations. I read the precursor to this book when it was new and programmed for GPU that I had back then.

The classic Doug Lea's Malloc with #define ONLY_MSPACES is great for this. That way you can constrain not only Lua's memory usage, but also it's fragmentation. We'd also manually run a fixed number of GC steps per frame

I have not dug into WASM myself. But, I've heard there are multiple implementations out there that are very nicely embeddable. They might well be good competition for Lua. I guess I'd ask a few different questions. Who is your

I think a lot of people complain about Lua because they are trying use use it as a Python alternative. Lua and Python are suited for very, very different tasks. If you are whipping up a command-line script because what you want is too comp

Not for the ILM use-case. I expect they would stick to finely-tessellated geometry. The challenge would be moving all of that data across the PCI bus in and out of the relatively limited DRAM on the GPU. It would require a very intellige
