I think it's simpler: these web services have zero tangible value and end users know it and aren't going to pay for it.

I don’t agree with this. You can run macOS without this crap so why can’t you run windows without it? macOS is arguably less enthusiast oriented than windows. Microsoft is one facade regardless of who is underneath it and they are aligned i

I remember the discussion about that which boiled down to: it’s good for you - shut up. That was the thing that kicked me over the fence. Open source doesn’t matter if the stewards do not have your best interests at heart.

Same situation here. Apple is not the best option, but it's the least shit.

I would rather hope the vendor has the right policy, not that a multi-national union forces it to have the right policy.

I've purposely avoided all three of those for that very reason. I've spent 30 years working with Microsoft stacks. It paid the mortgage off but it's been hell from a churn and lock in perspective. So much ROI was wasted on re

More user hostility. Less user choice. I remember a few years ago on here everyone crowing about the new Microsoft and how it wasn't like the old one. It's notably worse a this point.

I'm enjoying this one. Mostly because it has motivated people to move to AWS quicker which is where I make money :)

Why not a picosecond after the first one? What is the smallest unit of time? Does it even make sense when you get there? Now I've got a headache.

Well there is some variability in that. A lot of the cloud services out there don't work offline at all, suffer from sync issues, have poor quality apps if they even have one or have poor or undocumented privacy architecture. (I have A

Bloatware? The only thing that matters is the software! I've run my entire life, business and academic study with this software for over a decade. Works across my computer, ipad and phone. Works offline for days at a time. Never goes w

I don't use windows. My point is roughly there isn't even a remotely comparable bit of software to the stuff built into macOS on Windows or Linux (calendar, contacts, notes, reminders, mail, maps).

Best time to Linux ever. But worst time to dump other platforms which you rely on. Same as the last 25 years.

Yeah this. Also the plane tickets are so bloody cheap these days that the baggage doesn't hurt a bit.

No. I have a high end Dell Precision 7670 with their top NBD support option. The machine has been a shit show. Dell had no parts for it when it failed and took a week to find one. The NBD support doesn't always turn up on the NBD. It&#

Yeah that. It's usually the same people who will pay $2500 a year for routine service on their car without saying something but bitch about $500 repair on the principal income generator they have (their macbook).

Yeah my 2021 M1 Pro is showing 89% battery. My spare 2021 M1 Pro is showing 99% battery. (Also I have a spare iMac and a spare Mac Mini and an iPad I can work on) YMMV but redundancy is good.

Why no AppleCare? This would have been replaced free. This was a poor hedge. (Edit: missed the applecare bit) As for the battery being sold with the top case, I have less of a problem than many with this as it's difficult to ship the b

Planned for 2027. When it ships for that price I’ll believe it. The main underdelivery of EV’s is total cost of ownership which is a shit show of complexity under a layer of marketing. (Note: former EV owner. I don’t own a car now)
