The great thing about Olark is it can be very humanizing if you let it. Its pretty powerful to tell a customer at 3am: "Hey, this is definitely a problem. I've marked it in our issue tracking software, but its 3am here and I am about to

That is really interesting (great link too!). As coders ourselves we've had the same experience: spinning up something simple is usually pretty straightforward. What we are a little more curious about is the ability to bring simple sentimen

We were really blown away by some of the use cases. One of my favorites: analyze support tickets in HelpScout, Zendesk or Desk.com and tag them based on sentiment (positive vs. negative). The incredible thing is there is no code involved. I

We wrote [1] really briefly on that exact problem, which was one we faced. I'd like to expand on this, because I think you are 100% right. Launching is only half the battle. [1] https://zapier.com/blog/2012/04/05/finding-early-customers-w.

I bet it is very satisfying to just constantly ship cool new discrete features like this for a product like GitHub.

Zapier co-founder here: we love bringing tools traditionally "for developers" to folks who are less code inclined. It is really awesome to see our users sending transactional emails via tools like Mailgun/Mandril/SendGrid.

So excited about PyCon, last year was fantastic. I always make sure to mention it on these threads because you guys bust your ass to make it happen and I just want to thank you again. :-)

> 80% of economic activity is unproductive The parent comment is talking about 80% of companies struggling to raise series A , not 80% of the entire economy or even the entire startup ecosystem.

This is wonderful! I especially like the detailed coverage of Backbone views. They tend to be the most perplexing part of Backbone (do I nest? how much? how do I track them? etc...) and you outlined your use case nicely.

We listened to our users and found what was important to them: faster syncing. We have hopefully found a way to provide that but still make sure the folks who really get value can pay like normal. As usual, this is always a fine line. Anoth

Curious why you would claim links for search engine ranking algorithms are a myth. Links from high profile sites (like TechCrunch) are demonstrably good, though I would guess it is definitely a smaller percent now than it was in the early d

Wonderful, was considering writing this just the other day. Thank you good sir. One thing that would be really nice, is a record mode and serialization (to JSON/yaml/etc...) plus a context manager (python's with). How ready are you for pu

This is spot on. To elaborate a bit, Rails tended to have a lot more generated code (the fabled "magic") that really sped up development of your standard CRUD apps. As far as I can tell, this was fairly novel in web development. Django didn

Agreed, it very quickly starts to erode an early startups' most precious resource: time. We've taken to outsourcing what we can, as most do, but it would be nice to see how some people get it out of their way quickly.

I like this. You never see Techcrunch or any other tech blogs covering some of the maddeningly mundane aspects of a startup life (for good reason: its boring). From the outside, a startup seems like all code and growth and glamour, but the
