What are you doing that you need 100gbe? I am still on 1gbe... I guess I don't transfer anything bigger than a few GiB time to time.

I really like how this article exposes the problem recursively first then progressively adds caching, and finally reduces the size of the cache to only what is necessary. I have often made the mistake of trying to get to the dynamic program

Right, I should have said clever code golf. I think I would have written it like that: def parse(line): p = line.split(",") return ((int(p[0], 16), int(p[2], 16)) (parse(line)) for line in fp) And when it

I found the mistake obvious, but I have some experience with Python. The use of the `for ... in [...]` to destructure the list is quite clever. I would have simply indexed the list.

I failed a remote technical interview by writing a bad abstraction and mudding myself with it. After the interview I rewrote the code, and sent an email with it and a well written apology. The company thought the email and the code was chat

I think I can answer for Docker. The first prototype was written in Python, the company was a Python shop. The main reason for a rewrite in Go was to ride the popularity of Go that was growing at the time (2012). source: I was there.

https://react.dev/learn is so slow on my phone, it takes 1.5s to open the burger menu, and about 1s to jump to a section. (Google pixel 5a). It must be some SPA that loads the whole documentation all at once I presume. A tr

When the machine doesn't work, I have zero recourse. And the single attendant, if available, has none either. Cashiers used to be able to manual pass an item. not anymore. So I can either leave the store without the item, or steal it a

Pay per use with a rate lowering proportional to the increase in usage would feel quite fair. But it seems that a bit of ethic would kill the greedy.

In France it's still like that at Carrefour. You need to get a special credit card to get access to it.

When the self checkout machine refuses to scan my item. I am very likely to just steal it. Consider it a payment for my wasted time and doing the work that used to be handled by the cashier.

All the motivating examples but one are about mixing units from different system. And of those, all but one are about errors in mixing US Customary units with the metric system. Maybe Americans should just stop using the US Customary Units

I learned this when I tried correcting the wikipedia page on Docker. I literally wrote the first prototype. But this wasn't enough source for wikipedia. And to this day the English page is still not truthfull (interestingly enough, the

You mind find easymotion or similar useful. I am really fast and precise with a real mouse. Not so much on a trackpad and trackpoint. Easymotion is a good middle ground.

I found copilot most useful as an code editing assistant. A smart `sed` of sort. Moving code around a loop, extracting a series of variables etc. Like a sibling comment I also find it useful to complete the end of the line. As for writing c

I experience the same "blinding bright but visually dark" on a battery powered light I own. I wonder if it depends on the length of time the light is off. Most light that flicker below 400hz really bother me, but I still perceive
