Haha this scenario is perfect and tells you everything you need to know about the state of AI. We’re sitting here wondering if the language model also models reality, when we can just ask the thing itself! We are living in an Asimov novel

The alternative is that MAD ceases to exist, with one country having a stockpile of interceptors. That makes the other country fools anyway. Since they’re fools (read: potentially getting nuked) either way it could appear rational to invoke

I’ve never seen a more positive response to a logo change. I honestly can’t think of any positive response to a logo change lately. The flattening of Google’s word mark a decade ago is the most recent that comes to mind. I’m sure there are

Oh, this is a jet engine! Not a car engine. I was wondering if they’d be changing the electric vehicle game :) Apparently this new engine is 10% more efficient, and also runs on “Sustainable Aviation Fuel” (SAF). I did some quick searching,

On the other hand, in comparison to a hypothetical alien species, humans might seem highly aligned after all. Despite all our differences, there are at least some core values that I believe a majority of humans share. Even articulating thes

I'm shocked to learn that Chegg has stock at all. I'm amazed the public was willing to invest in a site that, as far as I can tell, solely exists to help students c̶h̶e̶a̶t̶ get access to homework answers. At least ChatGPT does th

Not sure why Trello was picked as an example. Trello respects the privacy of its customers. It does not profit from collecting user information. Private company data remains private in Trello, even if the company doesn’t pay. Data is not sh

Well, part of what props up the “oligarchy” is copyright law. I think if you want to change the outcomes of the system, we should adjust the laws and incentives underlying the system.

Surely the people working at Google understand how all these shutdowns look to outsiders, right? I have to imagine so… they’re smart people, and a ton of them lurk here on HN. It’s interesting to me that they continue to spawn and nix produ

These models have a very long lead time before they’re released to the public. Maybe GPT-5 is being trained on ChatGPT logs. I’m not sure we’d be able to detect if this was happening.
