What's wrong with "classical roguelike" or "traditional roguelike"? Definitions change over time, often you can't do anything about that. But I would expect those two not to deviate too much in the future (hope

NetHack's strong side is the early to mid game where you are limited in resources. Not dying by using all the resources that are available to you in the numerous ways that the game supports. That's why self-imposed limitations (so

Your link discusses classic or traditional roguelikes. OP's blog post is from 10 years so I can't blame them. But today "Roguelike" is usually something slightly different. A roguelike these days is a game that has (at l

Why not both? Use a procedurally generated map as a template and enhance it with manually designed parts. Or mix and match manually designed tiles with procgen stuff. This is similar to to what OP's newer link describes. Another option

That's not there, yet. That's one of the main criticisms of the original article. So many promises but so little actual functionality after a decade for Bitcoin and half a decade for Ethereum.

I don‘t know how many times I used the wrong M in various date formatters. Format specifiers shouldn’t be case sensitive. Better mnemonics would be even better.

Don't underestimate the culture differences between the Ruby and the Python communities. With Ruby, you are expected to update frequently. New ruby versions are eagerly awaited and all the major packages are updated pretty quickly.

The short story "The Man Who Came Early" by Poul Anderson touches on that theme as well. A soldier is transported back to Iceland of about the year 900 AD. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Man_Who_Came_Early
