Some of this just sounds like normal gripes about dating - men don’t want to settle and women have high standards for settling is a dynamic as old as time - but some things like COVID reducing organic social interaction seem to be a permane

Allowing a dominant OS to foist a bad browser on all of us is not a good way to prevent a dominant internet search company from potentially foisting a bad browser on all of us.

Being correct is extremely overrated, it’s better to allocate that time to doing more things or fully internalizing information you already know (I.e. how everyone knows it’s better to take chances than not but basically everyone is at leas

It’s interesting that we spent decades arguing against corporate IP control because it reduces the intellectual freedom of the human race but now that the corpus of data comes from everyday people instead of big companies (a direct effect o

I’d point out that most companies - including their closest analogue, Walmart - don’t do this. Amazon is reverting to the corporate norm.

Seems like the issue is CDMX’s government (which I’d note tends to be on the left of Mexican politics) is keeping fares down. I get why, it’s an appealing policy and raising fares would actually hurt people (in a way that a 25 cent hike in

I have a strong personal and moral conviction in favor of money-laundering so I’m pretty happy big banks are getting out of the crypto space.

This is generally false. Amazon has lost money in North America every quarter this year as part of a pandemic hangover (they over invested in warehouses). Prior to Q4 2021, their North American segment was profitable.

The idea that they can change the terms from the contract you signed is ridiculous. I don’t mind a liability cap for the banks but changing that under you? Insane.

To be clear, I don’t think you can blame these software engineers. Management has decided the average value of a tech lead to them is about 175K and they are getting that quality of engineer. I think their current tech issues suggest that t

It’s ridiculous to suggest that compensation isn’t correlated with quality. There are many exceptions but it’s a good rule of thumb in the absence of additional information. It also just passes the sniff test - try comparing the Southwest A

For most engineers, you’ll have a handful of times in your career when the compiler or runtime really is the problem. The rest of the time it’s like 95% your fault and 5% the library’s fault.
