Obviously? I'm not doing longitudinal sentiment analysis here; I'm pointing out the absence of "they deserve it" comments (or comments referring to same) that were present in the same timeframe for AM. This isn'

Also note that at least two people committed suicide over the AM leak. Not killed , but death nonetheless. http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-34044506

I don't think it's homogeneous, but the sentiment "feels" different. (Scientific, I know.) For instance, there aren't people here who are saying, "It's good we're outing adulterers: they deserve it.

Agreed, well put on the severity of the consequences. Was anyone in the AM leak Muslim and persecuted? I didn't hear about any stories. Will anyone here be persecuted for their actions? We don't know and are supposing.

And I'm struggling with the same thing: hence the comment thread here. Wouldn't Muslim Match have "interesting implications" as well?

Yet the consequences for AM users could be severe as well (divorce, stigmatization, etc.). Yes, physical harm is worse than divorce, but it's a spectrum . Also, interesting thought exercise: there probably was a percentage of AM use

You're getting downvoted, but there's a grain of truth here. If our perspective is, "It's ok that people were on this site, but bad that it leaked because consequences ," shouldn't we be willing to focus on ho

Example: HN gleefully ate up analytics on the AM dataset. What men were saying, searching for, the ratio of men to women, etc. Will we do the same here?

At the risk of making a tenuous (and inflammatory) connection, I'm struck by the difference in tone between this and the Ashley Madison leak. Here, there's sentiments of "how terrible", "leaked users might have seve

I haven't seen that kind of graph before, but it seems to be working (technically) for me. It's kind of a histogram with the animation happening between years (buttons at the top). I didn't see any rows with more than one col

What values are we talking about, though? "Immigration" isn't an unalienable right, though might be a core value of the U.S. (being a nation of immigrants, after all). But at the end of the day, the President's job is to

There's a chicken-or-egg scenario here. Do we block immigration because of safety (or employment, or other) reasons, or are those "reasons" just excuses to block immigration (due to racism or xenophobia I guess?). You're

The irony in your comment is that both sides are saying the same thing! No one thinks they are voting against their best interests, billionaires exist on both sides of the spectrum, and fear is a tool used by the right and the left.

With the caveat that his comments on Muslims are not part of the immigration debate, but rather the ISIS / terrorism / homeland security debate. I guess you can't have one without the other, but there is nuance there.

Which part? (Seriously.) My point was that there's no one source of truth. Perception is reality. To a vast majority of his supporters, Trump is not a racist xenophobe. Period, full stop. And this isn't stupid: an intelligent, rea

See, this is what fascinates me. I don't think it's that Trump supports are "unfazed by his racism and xenophobia". I think it's that they don't see it as racism and xenophobia . After all (playing devil'

This is a "guilty by association" logical fallacy. While some Brexitors are racist xenophobes, not all are. I find it hard to believe that 51% of the (voting) public is racist. This is the same thing that underpins the erroneous,

2016 is shaping up to be an interesting year, and the worldview espoused in this article is one reason. While the EU or other institutions may be "right" in their aspirations, the fact of the matter is that the status quo simply

Note that this is from September, and here we are with Trump as the nominee. If nothing else, Adams's analysis is interesting, funny, and (intentionally) provoking. It's still a bit myopic (and don't wade into the comments),
