Susan Fowler's case was not unique, I know women in tech who can confirm this. These are systematic issues. Why are you so desperate to downplay them, and why do you get so nervous when you're not allowed to frame the issues or co

Equality scares people when inequality is all they have to lean on. It makes them do strange things to re-frame discussions.

Jason described HN once as "the ass-end of the tech elite" and I still use that quote to this day. Wonderful dude.

I finally cracked open Factorio again over this weekend and sunk way too many hours in. It's quite literally Engineering: The Game.

Right, I also wanted to mention using a Quadtree but that seems excessive for pixel art (or most applications, for that matter). e: Another consideration would be keeping level-of-detail versions of each chunk of canvas as well, so zooming

I made an (unreleased) roguelike engine with a (virtually) infinite world, like Minecraft etc, in Java. I did it as a Hashtable<int, DataContainer>. In your case DataContainer would be some part of the canvas, maybe a 32x32 pixel area

I appreciate that you bring these questions up but your overall point seems to be "this is complicated and you can't provide logically / morally perfect arguments", which seems a little pointless. All legal matters are c

Thanks for the robust answer. I think the CDN fix could be built right into net-neutrality laws: If you're going to support that functionality then also do it equally to any CDN that is also willing to foot the bill and/or meets c

This ^ I say this every time and no one has ever been able to answer: how is a simple "don't prioritize traffic" some kind of competition-killing regulation, and how would removing it actually create competition anyway?

And of all the examples of "history repeats itself" to use right now why would you go with "liberals are mean!" and not the whole rising fascism thing that, yes, is actually happening again.

Anyone who's into gaming probably has GeForce Experience installed, which manages drivers and gives notifications. I want to say Microsoft will push them out a little later, but I can't be entirely sure since I've always used

Also started climbing a month ago, after having enjoyed trying it like ~5 years ago (but no gyms where I lived). It's incredibly satisfying. A mix between problem solving and physical exertion. I've never been a gym rat but I'

This is really cool. Did anyone else try to drag the "Drag Me!" bubble for 10 seconds, though? Instead of the line itself, I mean.

Why do you care if other people are happy being unambitious? Most people aren't horribly ambitious. How are 7 billion people all supposed to change the world?

I've never been able to wrap my head around how "don't prioritize bandwith or charge for fast lanes" hurts the little guys / limits competition. I must be insane because this sounds like a completely empty talking p

The Bible and Quran share the same DNA. There's no difference between any type of religious extremism, just as there's no difference between any group of humans. The difference is context, and in the case of the Middle East the so

Yes, the US would prefer a stable Middle East, but only a stable Middle East that serves US interests sufficiently. And they'll destabilize states that don't play into this. Notice how Saudi Arabia, the example you pointed out, is

This is a wildly revisionist view of US influence on the Middle East. For starters, you're assuming that the US government and it's intelligence agencies always understand the actual consequences of their actions and are always su

That's a valid point, but if you don't know enough about Chelsea Manning's recent history or prison sentence to know her preferred pronoun (or even read the article where it's made very clear) why even comment?
