What proportion of car owners do you think are also farmers or miners? I would have thought many more cars were in use by commuters who could take public transport if it were available.

While I agree it's probably not intentional the word is pretty common in British English.

I have an EOS M and it works ok. I had to install a different version of Magic Lantern to get it to not auto shut off, and generally a lot of poking around in the menus. You can get battery replacement AC adapters quite cheaply and my cheap

This is a very good point and a shame to see it being downvoted. I have been wishing there was an accessible database-ish software for doing my accounts, as the current mega-spreadsheet I use is pretty hairy and none of the specialised apps

I read this study and the recorded figure is around 50%. They're using some probability estimation based on the 50% discovered cases to account for people who had mild symptoms but not at the time they were tested (potentially after th

I read the Diamond Princess study and the 19% figure is not based on following up with departed passengers. They're using some probability estimation based on the 50% discovered cases, I assume they're trying to account for people

This is a very cool article which has left me wanting more. It seems to stop just short of the end though, there is no section to actually explain the component values in a rotor, or an interactive diagram deconstructing the component parts

The difference is still substantial, it's a 13% drop in the effective rate. This is compounded because the top 1% have doubled their share of income since the 50s [1]. 1. http://cepr.net/publications/graphic-econom

Perhaps I'm missing the subtle point here, but you can't call a music producer Apple, even if you predate Apple Inc by a decade, and have millions of dollars to hire lawyers. You can license the trademark from them though, if you

The comparison to Liverpool and Manchester is that Glasgow sees worse life expectancy despite similar climate, population, wealth etc.

Even if it can be rationalised as them not caring, or even just not prioritising support for Firefox, the point of TFA is you have to treat it as malice if you are on the other end. Maybe it's better characterised as neglect, but you h

This is the thing, I couldn't see any actual games mentioned in the article. From the banner image I assume they mean games like Crossy Road, but it would help to understand what makes a hypercasual game apart from the advertising mode

When living in London I had the council re-open a direct debit on my bank account and effectively withdraw a few hundred pounds towards a council tax bill. I was in a dispute with the council as I didn't believe I was liable any longer

In the UK for example the electricty usage has gone up from 192 TWh to 300 TWh, which is not great but not 4x either. The increase is mostly down to the developing nations around the world. So we'd have to go back the 1950s to see a 4x

I totally agree with this comment; it would be great to have an honest discussion around the proposed laws. The law is supposed to prevent re-publishing of content with minor attribution ala Google News or this type of thing[0] from Boing B

I don't like the sound of this change in China, I agree with you on that. I think this article does veer into xenophobia a bit though and it's good to offer a counter point to that.

Very interesting. I found a video of an express walkway at a Toronto airport which is apparently still in use. It looks quite complex with foot plates which extend as the belt moves faster. I wonder what it's like to use. https:/
