I derisively referred to my own suggestion as a "conspiracy theory" because I think this conversation is kind of bogus.

If we're getting into conspiracy theories, wouldn't gaming Yelp's reviews simply provide more evidence of gamed Yelp reviews?!?! I've spoken to numerous business owners in NYC who, after having turned down Yelp's su

I disagree. Yelp's reviews are needlessly verbose and possibly gamed or filtered according to the store's affiliation with Yelp. I don't have the same concerns re: 4sq reviews.

They'll almost certainly use the Swarm data to generate recommendations, but there are other non-check-in features to consider (likes, reviews, review sentiment come to mind). EDIT: Looks like location data as well.

Try using it as a terse alternative to Yelp, its verbose reviewers, and its shady review collusion.

Yes, Mohri's book takes a strong learning theory approach. At the same time, it's the only book I've seen that covers online learning well. Can you think of any others?

Agreed, it's also a bit topical. Check out Wiering + van Otterlo's "Reinforcement Learning: State-of-the-art." Covers many new techniques--I used it as a reference for a project earlier this year: http://www.s

Agreed that cost of living is lower -- $40k in Gainesville maps to $88k in NYC -- but my friends mentioned offers much lower than $40k.

It's not that the executive staff are like fraternity bros--it's that they ARE (or were, from what I recall) fraternity bros.

Ok, context for people: This post is from 2011. In one of his most popular talks from 2012, Bret demos a book-styled IDE. As you write code on one side, the IDE updates a visual representation of that code on the other side. ( http:/&#

The second article says it all: these are initial reactions. I believe the sentiment has changed drastically since the deal's first announcement (at least it has among sites and blogs I frequent).

I don't believe people are actually confounded by this acquisition. The headphones are wildly profitable and the Beats brand is incredibly strong. This deal is easily justifiable.

My point is that the allegations are gender-based in nature, which makes this a gender issue by definition. This did not become a gender issue when "other people support[ed] that claim." This became a gender issue the moment Julie

How is it not a gender issue when the "disgruntled" employee claims she was harassed because of her gender?

This is a hell of a response. You take a quote from the end of the original article, some 200 words, and use it as a basis to tear down Julie's character ("seems like..." and "sounds like..."). I mean, seriously, it
