I've found out that you really need to gut that thing like a fish before trying to pull on those :-) Unless you take out vibrator etc from the bottom you almost always break atleast one off. Yeah, IPA and thin plastic shim card. These

iPhones had adhesive pull tabs for years now. You really did not need heat and force for that unless you ripped it. And even if you did rip those tabs IPA does much better job of un-adhering the battery as you really don't want to use

Yeah, I know. It was painfull process full of shattered glass. Reasonably priced repair - unless they found some random part glued to the backside that they paired to the motherboard for "security reasons" :-D

You don't really need their toolkit to make the repair - most of the repair shops has the necessary tools already available for other phones. The basic process of opening/closing any moder phone is basically the same.

Any modern iPhone has its battery held by pull tabs (double sided tape that lets go when you pull on it sideways). They are sometimes PITA to remove but you just need tweezers, fingers and bit of luck to remove it :-) Adhering the battery i

Yeah, I made a mental shortcut when writing that - sorry :-) Of course I wiped it beforehand - they told me that they will have to send it somewhere and it would get wiped regardless.

Congrats. My battery change took them 2 weeks, had to send it. Came back wiped. I guess it depends on where you are (Central Europe for me)

The last time I tried it I had to put in the SN of the device I wanted to repair in advance to get the part. Maybe they fixed it from then, have not checked. If you cannot get parts in stock (meaning in advance), you might as well send it t

I'm not moving goalposts at all. All I'd want is a way to get most of the parts from OEM & be able to install them. At the very least I'd expect to be able to swap: 1) Battery (consumable) 2) Front (LCD) 3) Back (either j

Last time I checked it was not like that - those kits are actually quite easy to use. The catch is that in order to buy it, you need to give them SN of the device in advance . Meaning you cannot have stock and thus you cannot offer any rea

I dunno, this article reads... strange. I mean yeah, it is nice to be able to open it from front and rear. But what good does it make when they pair every single component to the motherboard? Yeah, technically parts are more accessible (phy

They are still gluing it however they use "pull tab" strips. Although they are somethimes PITA to remove, they are not the worst thing. If you tear one off you can usually use a little bit of IPA to loosen it.

How does disabling TrueTone/autobrightness help your security? Or vibration motor? Or battery? Or rear facing camera? I can answer for you: these are completely unrelated to security. It is just a middle finger from Apple to anyone wan

I have also tried to contact support and it was painful. At first you get an automated response from some bot which is unhelpfull. After some more diggin and poking around you get to a human but they just told me that they don't know d

Well technically you are correct but the underlying issue is Discord and unability of their tech support to change anything in regards to these blacklistings/flaggings. It is infuriating and I don't see why these services would ne

I have the very same problem. It seems that my IP @ home was somehow flagged and I was unable to access Discord without giving them phone number. I will never give my phone to Discord/Twitter etc - just a matter of principle.

I will, for sure, switch to FF the second uBlock stops working in Chrome/Chromium. I switched from the Safari on MacOS for just the same reason even though I lost things like ApplePay etc. I am not giving up on uBlock. The web is too

I'd also donate if I could be sure that the money would go to the (online) privacy. I honestly don't give a damn about abortions in the US and I don't care about any local policital movement, that is cool for the season.

What do you use as Dialer/SMS/Contact app? I tried to switch myself from iPhone and almost everything was OK but these were the worst to get right... I ended up using suite from Tibor Kaputa (Simple Dialer etc) but I ran into some

How does "I hope you at least pay for these apps" adds anything even remotely relevant to the thread about what apps someone uses as part of their de-googled phone? Yeah, developers do need to eat, but this (IMO) snarky comment is

I, for one, would like to see normal package upgrade process - atleast for debian-based distros. I really don't like the current way of "copy old directory somewehere, copy a new one and replace some files from the old one".

The thing with the FF was it did not support U2F tokens in Linux correctly when I tried it few months ago. U2F requires some "U2F addon" that is incompatible with Quantum. This is a no-go for me as I have numerous websites secured
