Is it possible to import the app from Heroku (like in the top link) and then detach it and deploy directly from command line to Fly?

Sure, what I would expect when deploying a new service / application: 1. Create a new app in the dashboard or command line (in Heroku it's basically a single step: choosing app name and region) 2. git push from my repository (it&#

Thanks, however, we will never use GCP (avoiding Google products due to their random AI bans)

Would you mind sharing how many working days went into building it? This was exactly what we tried to avoid with our (rather small) dev team.

As a CTO of a company which has a very similar situation - I can fully agree on that. We already started looking into a possible migration to another cloud provider. The biggest decision point would be a similar developer experience as with

In our case, this would mean increasing our Heroku bill by 400% (we run a few paid apps and >40 free dynos with super low monthly activity) Does anyone have a recommendation how to re-create the Heroku experience on AWS or Azure?

Yeah, at least patent related cases should follow this rule. But not sure if the US legal systems adapts it any time soon.

Plus burn the bridge completely in an industry where reputation is one of the key aspects? And on top of that risk a potential legal action?

Yes, it's probably because this is a proven business model and if you niche-down enough, you will be able to serve the audience better than the bigger competitors. The biggest problem though is still bootstrapping the demand side (job

Is it not possible to use an Authenticator app for Signal, given their privacy setup?

It might work, but the presumption is that you are in a country with high social cohesion and low wealth inequality. Otherwise, by stripping people from their privacy, you create basically a database of targets for thieves and other crimina

I will take the chance to add our datasets as well (we are running tech job boards with mandatory salary brackets). The data is based on what the companies advertise, and the data size is of around 2000 salaries for each country: - Switzerl

Are you living in Australia? Just curious to understand where is this belief coming from.

It looks like Australia is close to China not only geographically but also by the censorship practices.

Well, most software can run perfectly without updates, for example: You can still have a PC running on Windows XP. Why you might need updates: 1. New functionality (if you need a particular feature that was not available before) 2. Security

Speaking from a consumer perspective, there should be definitely 2 options: 1. You pay for a subscription $X per month and get the newest updates. 2. You pay $Y*X once, but then you are left with the version which you bought in the first pl

To the HN mods: Shouldn't there be a policy that articles behind Paywalls are automatically removed from the main page?

My theory is that it's also the behavior of users that has changed. In my own network (age brackets 25-40), I rarely see any people posting updates or uploading pictures, which was common 5 or 10 years ago. On the other hand, Meta mana

Easier said than done - for example: You have a business which was review-bombed with 1-star reviews on Google Maps. If you are in B2C, you are now bleeding money and good luck getting your entry removed from Google properties.

Perhaps not 7x, but even in the US after jumping a few times from the first junior role one can probably double or maybe even triple the salary.

I think the main problem with Google is that they apparently treat Human Customer Support as the worst possible Evil. Of course, it is not feasible to provide it to all users, but in case of Google even if you spend in the range of XX thous

So basically your expectation is that your favorite podcast authors create the content for you free of charge and don't earn a dime? (I assume from your message tone that you are not a fan of paying for the content, either)

I agree on that and we had similar observations on the job boards that we manage (each of them has mandatory salary brackets if you want to post a job[1]) Obviously, salary is not the only criteria for picking a new role, but by publishing

One could be wondering why there was a big pushback against nuclear energy in the first place. Especially that it hasn't happened in the neighboring France. Was it perhaps because of some hidden actors who pushed for the gas pipelines
