Disagree with your view of the essay, but your anecdote is interesting. I learned something from analyzing the anecdote with inappropriate sincerity. Why- of their own free will- would each economist offer $20,000 to eat the turd? There can

Most bad decisions find their origin in either relying to heavily on ones own thoughts, or not sufficiently trusting them. Having a good meta-instinct for knowing when to cede to conventional wisdom and when to trust your own instincts is l

I think the definition implicitly described in that book is "Quality is the ability to satisfy the innately messy human value function". Which I think is a pretty okay definition. Though it's a better definition for beauty.

This at first made me angry, but on reflection I think you're basically right. I think it's because modern academia lacks the slack in the system that is necessary to solve these kinds of problems.

Pilot wave theory is actually a small change to the mathematical model in QM, but it is one which never affects anything that you can measure in the lab. It is correct to say that all interpretations lead to the same predictions, but not ac

Absolutely- the air con is essential. Good air quality and a comfortable temperature is hard to get any other way. So the car would need to be at least a hybrid.

There is no reason only Tesla could do this. Minimalist campers are a huge growth market. It has that classic characteristic of a good start up market- people want the solution so badly, they badly hack their own.
