My understanding was that dxc lacked support for compiling various HLSL features to SPIR-V (hence SM7 now), so there are still a bunch of Vulkan-focused projects like Godot which only support GLSL. But yes, the games industry has been almos

People have been wishcasting the end of dedicated GPUs for like 20 years now. It's nice that they're slowly improving, that every Apple Silicon Mac has a half-decent integrated GPU, that ML upscaling is pretty good if you want &qu

Extremely basic agency would be required to pass the Turing test as intended. Like, the ability to ask a new unrelated question without being prompted. Of course you can fake this, but then you're not testing the LLM as an AI, you'

The reason for doing the runtime fee in the first place is that they're bleeding cash despite being the engine behind many highly lucrative games. From a long term perspective this is very good for the future of Unity, their stock pric

It's an obvious cliche, but that "someone" is very frequently you. It's really easy to forget why you made some non-obvious decision and waste time poking at the exact same stuff you already did a year or two ago. It

You're free to renounce American citizenship to escape future tax obligations. Anyway it's not an issue for non-rich expats, you just have to file a tax return which shows you owe $0.

Sure, but that's just the price you pay for having fancy portable gadgets. You want longer battery life, there are tradeoffs. Personally, "it's finally a little thinner" is the thing that has me planning to buy an Apple

The core developers are too enamored with GDScript, but that's fine, C# and C++ (GDExtension) support is excellent. There are only a handful of API functions which are hampered by their need to support GDScript, so it's something

Babylon 5 remains almost unique in its particular tone of melodrama, its very theatrical acting with larger-than-life characters. I love it for that, despite one or two actors who aren't very good. Midwinter's episode ratings are

GitHub prompts you to save backup codes when you set up 2FA, and every so often when you log in. I don't think that's a terrible job, it's pretty much the standard. They also nudge you to set up multiple 2FA methods. I have t

Yeah, that's the normal thing to do. But it is crazy that Microsoft still won't just include the CRT as part of the OS, updated with Windows Update. You have to distribute the stupid thing yourself if you want the dynamic runtime.
