Why does it care if the application runs in a container? When you run a project in a container, you mount the projects directory into the container. That is nothing my editor cares about. It does not even know it. It works on the files loca

It sounds like you want to do the debugging outside of the container? I just do it inside the container with pudb.

Can you give an example? I don't experience any difference, whether I am inside a container or on the host os.

To me, containers are simpler than virtual environments. Just do "docker run --rm -it debian:11" and you are ready to go.

Isn't that an argument to let computers handle the driving rather than humans? Computers are extremely good at calculating physics. And they never get distracted.

The driver only needs to pay attention to the road when the software can't safely handle the situation. Software can already keep the car in the lane and at a distance to the car in front. Over time the situations it can handle will be

The same could be said for mobile phones. Some things can be done quicker with physical buttons. That's why people thought phones with just a screen would never become popular: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eywi0h_Y

The way I understand you, the Python script responsible for an endpoint will keep running for multiple requests? I prefer it when it just runs for a single request.

Are virtual environments still needed now that we have containers? I just run everything in a container and never need a virtual environment. Am I missing out on anything?

One of the strengths of building web apps in PHP is that you have this nice "Every pageload starts from scratch" system. Much easier to develop and reason about. It's a petty that in Python, long running threads are the norm.

One thing I never understood about compilers: Doesn't all CPUs offer a different set of opcodes? How can a compiler then work for different CPUs? For example, this Wikipedia page is listing the CPUs that support instructions for fast S

Starting a startup. 10 years ago, that meant renting an office, hiring cool people from your city and hang out with them every day. Today it is more effective to work remotely.

And GPT-3 remembers the prefix at the end of a long story and writes a summary? That sounds very surprising to me. I would have strongly expected it continues the story.
