You're right. I'm not an Apple dev so I don't see much of the utility but I'm sure there are many who do. Certainly, if I were a native iOS programmer looking to do a rich web app, Cappuccino would be my first choice. All of these framework

Interestingly, in JSPerf, sometimes the ternary pattern is actually faster than the if statement. Must be something V8 is doing.

This is a good point, and unfortunately it means that most of the advantage of using _.defaults() goes by the wayside. It just becomes a matter of personal preference. Thanks for the tip.

Exactly. The web is a very agile place. We don't all sit in cubicles and have weekly meetings. Some people just want to get things done, quickly.

Personally, batteries-included frameworks like Cappuccino scare me off for a few reasons: 1. I have to learn Objective-J. I've been web programming for years and I've become really good at Javascript. I even enjoy it. Other frameworks don't

We're all adults, there's absolutely no reason to take it to the internet when simply mustering a little courage and saying something will do. She took the cowardly way out and a man was fired for it. And that's assuming it was even true.

Yeah. You see that sometimes in modern JS, e.g. when pretty-printing JSON: JSON.parse(object, undefined, 2);

The assignment is hardly a performance concern in modern javascript. I imagine if we set up a jsperf test case we would find the difference negligible and the ops/s in the 10s of millions range. This is not the kind of thing that slows down

You are correct, except this will not work in the significant case where any falsy value is passed ("", 0, null, NaN... I exclude undefined because that is the intended behavior) or with booleans. A slightly more verbose, yet hardy syntax w

For people who like a bit more clarity, underscore also has a _.defaults syntax: function foo(opts){ var defaults = {bar: "baz", foo: "biff"}; _.defaults(opts, defaults); // do things with opts here... } The difference

It's hard to believe that a site with that kind of traffic & resources hasn't even bothered to concatenate and minify its JS & CSS. Most of the JS files still have comments. Bizarre. They should know better.

I was thinking about that. While one part of me thinks that the library shouldn't have to specifically support libraries like LayoutManager, the reality is that there is no way to make it work without transplanting that code into GlobalMess

I tried it out on an app I'm building. A few notes: 1. The documentation is pretty lacking IMO. I would really like to see a unified "This is every option available to you" section. I have to dig through the code to figure out what is and i

When it comes to browser benchmarks, there is a lot of emphasis on JS performance, page load time, and memory consumption. But one area where I've seen Chrome absolute fall apart is scrolling performance. Safari regularly gives me 3-5x the

I can take a stab at it. All variables are hoisted to the top of a function, where they are defined as 'undefined'. This is confusing, I know - there is actually a difference between an undefined variable (accessing it will cause a Referenc

That combined with the charging time is the only difference. I thought it strange in the Top Gear review of the Roadster that they even mentioned it only got 55 miles on a full charge on their track (and faked it running out of charge). Mos

It seems strange to even sell these units at all right now. If they really can pay for their (retail!) value within a week, the real money is in running them, continuously, until the difficulty gets so high that they can only pay for themse

Even with a DIY Fusion setup, Disk Utility unhelpfully offering to wipe all your drives to fix a filesystem error points to a pretty major bug in Disk Utility's decision-making capabilities.

I agree; it would be very difficult to do this: you would have to essentially define some padding area at the bottom of the file for random data (e.g. stored in a string) then generate data to go through all 2^64 possible hashes until you g
