My background and current project are PC-centric, but there are some folks here who came from console development who have that style too. And yeah, the instance where there are two lines of this are actually lines of slashes, the line of =

Yes I use blank lines. On a related note though, there's a lot of code in my current work project, and my previous one, where people separate every function definition with a comment line like //=============================================

There's a saying in MMOs, "You can't patch first impressions". It is kind of contrary to "just get it out there", but maybe not if you consider press coverage rather than shipping "getting it out there".

Pyjamas is great fun. I made this silly asteroids game with it a while back: http://rumsey.org/space/Space.html The sound is the only thing that wasn't written completely in Python. It's flash, and it also seems to have broken in my bro

There are times when I do good amounts of work via the console even when I have plenty of screen real estate. But GNU screen or tmux are much better ways to go about it than C-z etc. I wonder if this was written by someone who hasn't hear

I hate that feature. I would just dislike it and ignore it, but Firefox seems to think I should love it, so it's always trying to convince me to turn it back on one way or another. I think I've finally got it off everywhere, but I know it

Saying "This move could anger at least some open source enthusiasts" seems to imply that they're moving to a closed source or proprietary system, but Unity seems to be an open source project at a cursory glance. It could anger some Gnome e

This is a great article. However, at the point where he suggests that the two choices for graphics programming are DirectX or OpenGL, I would point out that there are other options if you are pursuing anything other than graphics programmi

I didn't even realize Android had a logo. I mean, I read this and other tech sites all the time, and I'm sure I've seen it a hundred times. I know there has to be one. But I couldn't for the life of me tell you what it is. Is that a logo

You're more likely to find lua or sometimes python in modern games than assembly. Scripting has become a big part of many games, and lua has found its niche by virtue of being relatively light weight and quite easy to interface with from C

Hopefully they'll open source the plugin so we can keep it updated for changes to Firefox. Though I'll probably just switch to another solution, especially if there's another that uses my own server. Or maybe just Dropbox. I only switched

I use the Xmarks firefox plugin, but with my own server. It's always supported that. I expect that'll keep working for a while until a newer Firefox breaks the plugin, so I'm still in the same boat of needing to find another sync method.

I'm taking 6 months off next year to hike the Appalachian Trail. I have a great job that continues to challenge me even after 9 years (10 by the time I start) but I just need to do something different for a bit. Luckily for me, I asked, we

I've seen the bitmap to level trick used before, but most "normal" (not developed under severe time constraints) games would eventually have a level editor implemented alongside the game. Personally, I'd be more likely in this situation to
