Ok but assuming equal software dev (or R&D) expenditures over time, for the first four years after this law takes effect, you will be paying more taxes. You've gone from being able to expense 100%, to only 20% in the first year, th

Not totally sure how that applies here, since I don’t think anyone would argue that having a few extra warnings is somehow slowing down progress. I also disagree with the article for other reasons. The idea that something being the first pr

Most of these strategies will get better results when working with other humans as well!

This is a guide for working with the LLMs we have now, not some perfect future models. The reality is that certain prompt engineering techniques allow you to get better results. On top of that, humans still require training and instructions

They didn’t misunderstand. If you look at the images included in the paper (this link has them inline: https://journalofillusion.net/index.php/joi/article/view/983... ) you can see that it is an illusion

First of all, the tone of the article invites equally acerbic criticism. Calling devs “image coding douchebags” is not exactly going to win anyone over. Secondly, there’s a bizarre assumption here that someone can’t be both a tech guy and a

Whatever happened to empathy? Those people don’t deserve to die despite making mistakes or being careless. Many of them probably have kids or other family that love and rely on them.

Not sure if part of your argument is that we shouldn’t have safety features like a backup camera because they lead to worse drivers… because that is absurd. At the end of the day, you are never going to be able to do tests or training to th

I feel like all of these are minor annoyances compared to the more serious safety issues they are trying to prevent. I feel like you are underestimating how stupid the average user is… and especially how stupid the most stupid users are.

The problem with EGS isn’t really the lack of features (though it does lack many), it’s that the interface is poorly designed as well as being sluggish and miserable to use.

This is true but it’s worth noting it’s because Unity used Mono’s garbage collector which was, well… garbage.

If you read the article you’ll see it’s not just about rumours but about where the future of AI may be headed in general.

The article links to an example of GPT-4 failing to solve it. It seems likely that it can only solve it sometimes and basically gets “lucky”.

I’m not OP but I do much fewer Google searches now as well. Prior to ChatGPT, the majority of my Google searches ended up on either Wikipedia (for direct information), Reddit (for opinions/advice), or StackOverflow (for programming que

That’s like saying a biologist studying an endangered species isn’t doing science because the animal could disappear tomorrow. The permanence of a subject has no bearing on whether it is science or not. The idea that science has to happen i

Well the worseness has to be counteracted by how likely it is. A 38% increase in something quite rare (brain bleeds) is nowhere near as impactful as a 20% reduction in cancer, which is much more common.

This was a good meme a year ago but these days it’s out of date. Popular image AIs like Midjourney and Dall-E now do accurate hands the vast majority of the time.

“everyone still acts like men run and rule everything” Uh have you looked at the Fortune 500? 459 of the companies are run by men. Women make up only 28% of members of congress. The world IS still run and ruled by men.

They absolutely do reject people who are “not a culture fit” all the time, how do you think it stays as a boys club? On top of that there’s all the high caliber people who would intentionally avoid applying to work there because of the work

“Boys clubs can hire whoever is more capable” Surely you can see how this logic is absurd. You can’t limit your pool of workers to only “boys” and then claim you’re hiring the most capable people. You will miss out on all the capable people

Have you never any science before? Any experiments or tests? Even failure can be exciting because it’s a chance to learn something new. Also in my experience the least humble people are the ones lecturing others about their lack of humility

This is not the reason Ilya did it. Also the rest of that guy’s comments were just really poorly thought out. OpenAI had to temporarily stop sign ups because of demand and somehow he thinks that’s a bad thing? Absurd. That guy has no sense
