I think it's also worth mentioning mtr, which is what I use much more frequently than traceroute. It can help diagnose intermittent packet loss, and gives you an averaged sense of how things flow. This article from APNIC explains more

The caveat being… brilliance will cost you. If you incentivize them to care deeply and solve your hard problems, and they have the capacity to do so, they will. But if you don’t, they’re not just going to toil unnecessarily for an incommens

long term work stuff. Things we would be contractually obligated to produce many years down the line. Plenty of other people storing images, video, etc. a PB is really not that much stuff when it's not just for personal consumption.

As far as I know, R2 offers no storage tiers. Most of my s3 usage is archival and sits in glacier. From Cloudflare's pricing page, S3 is substantially cheaper for that type of workload.

Do you have any insight into who, if someone else is making their tools? I have never seen then their electric offerings used in person; I would love to know what the market penetration is like. Likewise, I have not seen any performance ben

The easy solution is an inverter connected to any truck or van's alternator. Solar does not have energy density to realistically work.

I saw that -- those potential partners could be almost anyone. I specifically think they should go with a tier-1 tool maker, especially over "lower tier" tool makers or a household electronics brand.

Slight compared to TCV. Labor is (usually) the most expensive part; tooling is a one-time large upfront cost that can be depreciated. IME, the maintenance is much lower on electric tooling than even quality gas tooling. Batteries will also

Cool tech, but the GTM strategy will make or break them. Small 2-stroke engines (like those run by lead blowers, weed whackers) contribute a relativly insane amount of noise and air pollution, and their solution is an excellent opportunity

I have a split lunch schedule -- I usually take 30 minute lunches during Mon-Thu and take an hour for lunch on Friday. Based on my internal notes (and a bunch of metrics) I am more productive on Friday (especially afternoons) than I am on

Building a system != building a business. Even if OP is just building something to scratch their own itch, slap up a landing page and repo. Even if you offer it as a WYSIWYG and totally ignore issues, it's still a tenable sign of other

I second this. Building one or two cool demos with a common tech stack is a great learning tool and strong signal. It's a much better approach than lots of small projects.

Correct, certainly not perfect. I actually view 1,2 as features, and 3 as preferable to some of the active harm that comes with other incentives. You could reject that and optimize on something else. The goal is really to understand the im

Show me the incentives and I'll show you the results. It's my favorite Munger quote, and it's a really good one. So often businesses invest so much time, effort, and money into everything but incentives. No matter how much

Show me the incentives, and I’ll show you the results. Policy is set by the same people you want to govern. The incentive from the top needs to be on ICs or on manager efficiency if you want less managers.

No way it's that low. <10% of startups succeed in a nurturing environment with cheap money. The current env is decidedly average, not cheap. I would suspect <5% will survive, and 0.1-0.5% will give a "good" return if t

Wow, 100mS of latency? Surely most of that is in the encode/decode? For comparison, I see somewhere on the order of 1-10mS of latency streaming over sunlight/moonlight. That’s close enough to “live” to make it feel real. For watch

Straw man argument at best. This is anecdotal, but ridicule for reevaluating a position is not at all common in my experience. When people tie their identities to a specific idea, it becomes hard to change that idea as they or the idea evol

I run mine on HP’s version of an optiplex with a 2nd hand pcie 1Gb quad nic, but if you wanted nicer “real” hardware with a proven track record, an HP microserver gen10 or gen10+ can be had on eBay for very little. A gen10+ should even come

This is an excellent point. At the end of the day, rewriting is time and resource intensive. If there isn't a very good business case to backup the change, it's very difficult to justify the project. This is why you see so many wh
