You need to obtain a moonlighting clause. It gives you permission to work on an idea or set of ideas. Your employer should have one available.

As someone starting a hardware company with amazing software as part of the experience, I am battling the same problem(s). I want to hire creatives who don't need to be delegated to, and can own full cycle of tasks on their own. I have

So this is what I was getting at precisely. As buckbova said, programming is problem solving, and solving problems is a creative process. If you treat developers as creatives (like you do design, etc) you get a superior product and work env

Heres the problem I have with this entire discussion -- and this post does address it a bit -- but programming IS a creative role and needs to be treated as such. Many organizations hire programmers as technical roles, but they are generall

Firstly, as others stated, you took a risk and likely violated your lease as well as NYC law. With that said, this tidbit from your listing is a brilliant indicator of how you inevitably brought this issue onto yourself: "You may host

I use 'hollywood' as a way to describe the industry not the individual players. There are people in 'hollywood' that tried different business models (Louis CK comes to mind), and have found extreme success in doing so. T

I've tried it a few times recently, and its pretty awesome. The takeaway I have from this is that if hollywood chose to embrace this sort of thing, they would solve distribution costs (seed vs host). Their cost will be contained to jus

A lot of people who might live in these markets, also probably don't own cars. In NYC, for example 55% of people DONT own cars[1] They are right to focus on high rates of adoption with people who live in suburbs than those that live in

To be clear, our iterating like crazy is getting customer feedback and making new features or products to test new ideas as fast as possible. A few weeks ago I was asked to make a dashboard for a client of ours on the last evening of our ha

I don't really feel like a slave, maybe I am under reacting here. I am pissed the NSA is collecting data, I am upset at all the recent revelations we have had about data privacy in the last 6-8 months, but I certainly don't feel l

This correlation is lost on me. Founders are entitled to make a living wage. In NYC being paid less than $50k would mean a few things: !) You have to live in squalor. 2) You have money from somewhere else to support the rest of your needs.
