I had never heard of The Awl. Opening their home page, the main thing I see is an article titled "The Miscellaneous Bros of Bodybuilding.com" with the tag "A waste of virgins". Based on this extremely limited exposure, I

Fair point. Still, political correctness is very much about avoiding offense or further disadvantage toward marginalized groups. It still doesn't fit to claim it's politically incorrect to go after rich white people. It's a p

That's fantastic. I believe Men's Warehouse's founder (who has been ousted) also advocated for something similar. I wonder how well those "second chance" hires end up working out compared to typical hires. I have to

I may be misunderstanding you, but politically attacking rich people and white people are some of the most popular things going right now, especially among the demographic common around HN. It's almost the opposite of politically incor

I don't have a comment on the content of the article itself, though it will be interesting to see how the competing standards shake out in the longterm. I did want to say that while I read through the article I was struck by how high q

Mentioning strace in an article titled "Learn just enough Linux to get things done" seems so out of place as to be absurd, even in an "Advanced" section. Anyone who needs the rest of this advice is going to be absolutely

This is really the strongest argument I've seen of any of this being a problem. Coming to any country as an immigrant is a privilege, and it the immigrants prerogative whether or not they feel the terms are acceptable. It is, however,

I wouldn't say that you're unnecessarily scaring yourself at all. Kubernetes is extremely complex. I've been running it for a few months and I'm just starting to get my hands around it. Things will just stop working for

I don't follow the logic here. Gawker was brought down via the Hogan case, which was financed by Thiel. Do you believe the Hogan case was an illegitimate suit? If not, why does it matter who financed it? I find the fact that it require

I find this disgusting. I couldn't really care less what advertisers put out, but banning messages simply because they don't conform to the current political winds is troubling.

I'm not surprised. There are very few mass appeal deals in Prime Day, and the Echo devices are heavily subsidized. I think it's more a statement of how lackluster Prime Day continues to be than it is a success of Echo.
