'You Can See Everything' Review: Nathan Fielder's Doc About Elizabeth Holmes
- seabombs 28d agoLove everything Nathan Fielder does. The trailer is awesome. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GGJSRFWALTI https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GGJSRFWALTI
- drcongo 27d agoIt's like a horror movie trailer, only scarier.
- embedding-shape 27d agoWhat an incredible trailer. So simple but so communicative and almost gave me goosebumps, very well made. Seeing her like that gave me flashbacks to Mark Zuckerberg before he seemingly trained away that empty stare he and others share.
- aaron695 27d ago[dead]
- saimiam 27d ago(from the trailer) Holmes' mouth reminds me of the Amazon logo. Not just the shape. Also the complete disconnect between the commonly held meaning of a smile and the entity which is currently using it.
- _doctor_love 27d agoLook up Pan Am smile vs Duchenne smile.
- cindyllm 27d ago[dead]
- jpmattia 27d agoHoly moly, that was unsettling.
- toasty228 27d ago[flagged]

- soulofmischief 27d agoThe Curse was incredible. I imagine this movie will be pretty successful as well and talked about a good bit on social media, between this and The Curse Nathan probably has formed a pretty good relationship with A24, I hope they continue to fund his antics for a while. The Rehearsal was some of the best television ever and I'd love to see more projects of that caliber.
- VulgarExigency 27d agoI had to pause multiple times when watching The Curse because I was writhing in spiritual pain from excessive cringing. It was amazing.
- rawgabbit 27d agoShe would have made a terrific actress playing mafiosi. I can see her giving that death stare while knifing Johnny nine-toes and pulling out his entrails.
- 4d4m 26d agoFielder is one of the top comics of our generation, and a prolific producer!
- saimiam 27d agoWho’s “Bobby” mentioned in the article? Did the writer just mix up Billy Evans with Bobby?
- petesergeant 27d agoIt does seem that way, half-way through they switch from "Billy" to "Bobby"
- Citizen_Lame 27d ago[flagged]
- js2 27d agoArticle has been corrected to Billy everywhere Bobby previously was. Previously: https://archive.ph/sSnek https://archive.ph/sSnek Corrected: https://archive.ph/k3Hnl https://archive.ph/k3Hnl
- nl 27d ago> But the more Holmes talks to Fielder, the more he teases out her unhinged rationale, which is: The device works fine! We just had to figure out that pesky chemistry stuff! The strange thing is that Holmes has such a corporate mindset that she treats the chemistry stuff…that hadn’t been invented yet…as just another glitchy small problem that could easily be solved The difference between science and engineering right there...
- s_dev 27d agoYou mean marketing and engineering.
- TheOtherHobbes 27d agoManagement and engineering.
- runsfromfire 27d agoOwners and employees
- sam_lowry_ 27d agoCapitalists and workers?
- jodrellblank 27d agoWorker and parasite? https://youtube.com/watch?v=z2_dhUv_CrI https://youtube.com/watch?v=z2_dhUv_CrI (The Simpsons)
- philipallstar 27d agoCapitalists are the ones who allocate - and risk - money to attempt to solve problems like this.
- 27d ago
- jiaosdjf 27d agoI watched the entire trailer fully believing that Nathan Fielder had managed to find the most unhinged uncanny look-alike actress to play Elizabeth Holmes. This trailer was so good that I would have been fully prepared to watch a 2 hour dramatised mockumentary about Theranos. Finding out that this was really Elizabeth Holmes was a huge shock
- sevenseacat 27d agowait, it was actually her? I thought it was also some uncanny valley magic
- sschueller 27d agoYet people who met her were stupid enough to think she is some kind of genius and gave her millions of dollars. Sometimes I think if Charles Manson started a startup instead of killing people he would have had millions in investments and be praised as some sort of wunder kind...
- covercash 27d agoOr Charles Manson could weasel his way into existing startups, claim them as his own, become the richest man in the world, AND kill so many more people than he ever thought possible!
- upupupandaway 27d agoWhat?
- sschueller 27d agoElon's DOGE is responsible for over 100k deaths. Some died a horrible death with medical devices stuck in them because there was no one to remove them after all funding was instantly cut. One of the most inhumane and disgusting acts in history.
- 27d ago
- xyzelement 27d agoI have a distinctive memory about Theranos from business school - so circa 2013 a few years before it blew up. Some professor was going on and on about Holmes for being a young, female, founder. It stood out at the moment as weird because the praise was separate from success or outcomes or like brilliant science. It was all about the identity: gender and age. I wonder if the reason the scam went so far as it did because it was "shaped" exactly like what people were looking for, like what they were told the future of STEM was supposed to look like.
- glimshe 27d agoIt sure did. And it backfired in a way that could make future female innovators guilty by association. I can see investors asking themselves "That girl looks sharp, but is she another Elizabeth Holmes?"
- FranzFerdiNaN 27d agoPlenty of male-led businesses also turned out to be scams, and yet no one goes 'that guy looks sharp, but he is male so seems suspicious'. Which only proofs how deep sexism is rooted.
- mvdwoord 27d agoNo one markets ‘male founder’ as a reason to trust the business. Once gender is framed as a virtue, people start asking whether that claim actually means anything.
- Applejinx 27d agoThe government does! At least right now in the United States. And yeah, I think it's reasonable for people to start asking.
- xyzelement 27d agoIs there an example of this that you could reference?
- ddmf 27d agoThere was some major tension in the trailer - I can't believe that's actually Elizabeth Holmes, but seeing her I can see how she managed to win over so many - she is very intense.
- Obscurity4340 27d agoShe seem deeply creepy, like she would immediately harvest your organs if it only required a simple finger prick
- _doctor_love 27d agoThat's the thing about confidence artists, they know how to rope people in.
- ddmf 26d agoYes, she was compelling albeit uncanny valley.
- qoez 27d ago"That’s part of its appeal — it’s a one-of-a-kind reality-TV-as-hangout-movie psychodrama circus" This is fable level unreadable to me
- moffkalast 27d agoAt least it's not opus level unreadable amirite?
- ProllyInfamous 27d agoIt's "cringe" for the sake of cringe. –Unc
- rawgabbit 27d agoIt's the 2026 version of Jerry Springer freak show cum reality TV.
- iammjm 27d agoWow that is a one scary intense trailer. Hard to believe we are not witnessing some kind of serious psychopathology right there
- DarmokTanagra 27d agoImagine a world where we held Musk to the same standard as Holmes.
- azan_ 27d agoI get that musk frequently underdelivers and has gone insane recently, but what he’s done with spacex and Tesla is genuinely impressive. So I’m not sure what the hell do you mean, what exact standard?
- Bigpet 27d agoI think lying to investors is essentially what she was convicted of. You can make the argument that Musk believes what he says. Or you can say that he stayed clear of methods that make malice very obvious like forging documents. But I don't think the comparison is completely far fetched. Let's take stuff like his "funding secured" tweet, the "2016 autopilot promo video", his "Solar Roof" stunt do come a little close to outright lying to investors for my taste. Not quite the level of forging documents, but pretty dishonest.
- upupupandaway 27d agoHolmes and Musk are not even close to being the same. Don't let politics cloud your reason. Musk under-delivers some times but what he's done with SpaceX and Tesla is concrete, massive innovation.
- DarmokTanagra 27d ago[dead]
- watwut 27d agoHe lies all the time and she was convinced of lying to investors. Musk dont just underdelivers, he literally consistently knowingly lies.
- elgertam 27d agoHolmes seems to have the Harvard Business (MBA) mindset: science, R&D, engineering are just results to squeeze out of recalcitrant practitioners. Any failure in those domains is evidence only of the scientists' or engineers' refusal to align themselves with the Vision. Despite not even finishing undergrad, she adopted this persona so naturally, including the black turtleneck and a Zuck-esque vocal inflection, that due diligence apparently defenestrated itself. Phyllis Gardner is the unsung hero who tried to warn the world, but the MBA mass-delusion was too strong.
- qsera 27d agoAfter this, there was https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meredith_Perry https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meredith_Perry of UBeam
- mark_l_watson 27d agoI watched a 90 second clip from this film earlier today: Holmes unblinking asking ‘Why would I deceive you…’ Really strange stuff. I have to admit that I watched the clip a second time.
- specialist 27d agoMy brother has to remember to blink. (Thyroid or something, he's cagey about sharing diag. I suspect Grave's Disease.) His unflinching stare into the eyes of interogation, while telling obvious lies, got us out of lots of trouble.
- sim04ful 27d agoThis looks like another homerun for a24
- lapcat 27d agoFielder's "The Rehearsal" on HBO was madly brilliant.
- chasebank 27d agoIn particular, season 2 is truly a work of art. As you said, it is just flat out brilliant. If you haven't watched the final episode of nathan for you (season 4 episode 7), watch it. it's equally fantastic.
- ProllyInfamous 27d agos4ep07: "When I said your cake tasted like poo, I thought I was joking." ---- Thanks for The Rehearsal secondary-req. Added to my watchlist.
- steveklabnik 27d agoPretty much all of Nathan's work is. The Curse is so intense, and it only gets more so from there.
- joebig 27d agoElizabeth Holmes Thanksgiving Visit: Family Time in Prison https://www.memesita.com/elizabeth-holmes-thanksgiving-visit-family-time-in-prison/ https://www.memesita.com/elizabeth-holmes-thanksgiving-visit... And wtf is even a "prison camp?"
- NathanielK 27d agoBit of whiplash between the standard wordpress and the vibecoded "Byoviral" button. Article was fairly unfocused, any particular reason you linked it?
- joebig 27d agoSorry, I just automatically turn on reader mode everywhere. Taking the article at face value, I get the sense she got away with it. That's all.
- deleted 27d ago[deleted]
- x3n0ph3n3 27d ago> wtf is even a "prison camp" Minimum security prisons
- goodJobWalrus 27d agoWho is Bobby the article keeps talking about? Her business partner's name was Sunny, and her husband is Billy.
- aeve890 27d agoBobby-Sunny=Billy it's an embeddings things, you know
- vintagedave 27d agoFor those who are experts on body language, non-verbal communication, psychological communication tricks, etc -- what on earth are we seeing in that trailer?
- cainxinth 27d agoI’m not an expert at body language, but I think anyone can see she is trying really, really hard to appear friendly and trustworthy. But when someone is trying that hard to convince you they are benign, it makes you suspicious.
- ProllyInfamous 27d agoShe really wants you (and Nathan) to believe Her.
- rawgabbit 27d agoThe charitable take is she is an expert in method acting; she has become the fantasy she invented. The less charitable take is that she is a sociopath lacking the ability to realize the danger and harm her fraud is causing.
- senordevnyc 27d agoI think what I'm most interested in knowing is whether she was like this before everything collapsed. Is it possible she's just super awkward or on the spectrum or something? No offense intended to folks on the spectrum!, just that my understanding is that sometimes ASD can make it harder to relate in a way that neurotypical people expect. To me there's obviously way more going on here than just her trying to con you or being a sociopath. This is decidedly NOT what con-men look like when they're trying to take advantage of you.
- postscapes1 27d agoIs she not in jail right now? Also why in her right mind would she sign up to do this with Fielder? My brain hurts from this project.
- xtracto 27d agoMeh, from the documentaries I have seen and reading about her, to me it seems that she is hungry for attention. She will do whatever she vmcan to get attention, and she has succeeded once more with this documentary. She is also getting your money. I dont understand why dont people stop beating that death horse. She is a scanner and fraudster. She defrauded a lot of people and is in jail for that. Move on. Let her rot in the obscurity in she belongs to
- giarc 27d agoRead the article then.
- postscapes1 27d agoSorry thought it was paywalled. The timing before jail makes sense, but then the partner using Fielder and team for this? I suppose all of it makes perfect sense if you just suppose her and her immediate people are nutjobs
- guidopallemans 27d agoThis is explained in the article. Including the hurting brain.
- deleted 27d ago[deleted]
- SOLAR_FIELDS 27d agoMy favorite quote from the article: > So he calls Amanda Seyfried, who sits and watches the scene we’ve just seen of Holmes sitting and watching Seyfried portray her. This is so very Nathan Fielder. Perfect encapsulation of his unique brand of humor. Seyfried portrays Holmes, giving her interpretation of Holmes. Holmes watches the portrayal, giving her interpretation of Seyfried's interpretation. Seyfried watches Holmes' interpretation of Seyfried's interpretation of Holmes. This vibe is basically the entire theme of The Rehearsal. It's an exercise in how many Matryoshka dolls we can un-nest in our meta exploration of the topic. Keep zooming out and re-view yourself in the scene you just played which is a super interesting way to discover things about yourself and others
- soulofmischief 27d agoThe way The Rehearsal continues to escalate and fold in on itself is a masterclass in screenwriting. The precision required underneath the surface to plan and execute what seems like such a spastic, increasingly desperate clusterfuck involving so many real people can only be achieved by the exact methods put on display. Endless iteration and exploration until every serious edge case is considered and accounted for. Nathan would have made a great engineer.
- deleted 27d ago[deleted]
- fatbird 27d agoOne thing that the earlier documentary on Theranos, The Inventor, made obvious is that Holmes is pretty charismatic at a personal level. At one point, Gibney is trying to interview her, but the camera he’s setting up isn’t working for some reason, and he’s apologizing. She says “it’s alright” and then leans in and says “we’re going to get through this” and smiles. It’s very warm. It was easier to see how people bought into her and her vision after that.
- raffael_de 27d agothe trailer looks like a remake of the shining and shelley duvall has her hair dyed blonde.
- _doctor_love 27d agoOh wow. I saw this trailer late last night on YouTube with the sound off. I kept thinking "why do I feel like I know this person...." At the end, when it said it was a documentary, I thought: "about who?" The HN headline here now explains it. My mind is actually a bit blown. Such proof that all you need to rehabilitate yourself is money. It started last year with sympathetic profiles in NYT of Holmes and her husband. I suppose at this point it's just a matter of time before she (a) founds a new company or (b) runs for elected office. I leave it to other commenters to think up options for (c) and (d). Either way...a fool and their money are soon parted. And I guess Holmes is the one to part more fools from their money.
- evan_ 27d agoIf you think a Nathan Fielder project is going to rehabilitate someone's image then you don't know who Nathan Fielder is.
- _doctor_love 27d agoLet's see who has the last laugh.
- Apocryphon 27d agoIt shall be us, the audience
- _doctor_love 26d agoThis is the correct answer. We'll be amusing ourselves to death.
- Apocryphon 26d agoHe who laughs at last, laughs best.
- 15d ago
- bmitc 27d agoElizabeth Holmes is definitely unhinged, but I feel there's always a little bit of sexism that goes along with it. For example, I believe you could make a very similar documentary around Sam Altman, Elon Musk, or Donald Trump. Altman and Musk just have the ability to find people who have already come up with the ideas instead of inventing the idea themselves. I have no idea how Trump does it.
- xboxnolifes 27d agoYou only get the reputation destroying media hounding on you after you get hurt the rich and get convicted and are no longer in a position of power.
- neogodless 26d agohttps://variety.com/2026/film/festivals/elon-musk-ex-ashley-st-clair-nda-documentary-venice-film-festival-1236853851/ https://variety.com/2026/film/festivals/elon-musk-ex-ashley-... https://variety.com/2026/film/reviews/musk-review-elon-musk-alex-gibney-1236854369/ https://variety.com/2026/film/reviews/musk-review-elon-musk-... Turns out, someone is about to release a similar, 4 hour long documentary about Elon Musk.
- FireBeyond 27d agoSo many thoughts here but yeah: > but shortly before her prison sentence was set to begin she decided she wanted someone to document her last days of freedom. Maybe she wanted to have her say What, had she not gotten to have her say in all of the hundreds of interviews up until that point? > the more Holmes talks to Fielder, the more he teases out her unhinged rationale, which is: The device works fine! We just had to figure out that pesky chemistry stuff! The strange thing is that Holmes has such a corporate mindset that she treats the chemistry stuff…that hadn’t been invented yet…as just another glitchy small problem that could easily be solved And yet she went to (and dropped out of) Stanford for chem eng and spent most of her time in labs and genomics. Dropout or not you can't point to her as being "corporate, not chemist". > Holmes says to Fielder that she’s never told a lie in her life. So what was telling some facilities people to move some document cabinets in front of the door way to the actual lab where all the FDA inspectors would see was a bank of Siemens machines doing the work that she was telling the FDA her machines were doing?
- hnthrow550055 27d agoI’m not surprised that HN turned into this. I am not a fan of Holmes either and it was clear the girl boss angle was used from the beginning. The shit spewing media was in full effect to gush over her accomplishments. But, and I say this in all seriousness, this woman needs help. A thread full of people calling her a psychopath, creepy, etc is really below the belt. I’m not surprised this is the kind of community dang has cultivated because I don’t have many expectations for him. I do wish all of you could be more mature about this individual. She’s a mess.
- fittingopposite 27d agoSuper creepy. Reviewing the trailers and other interviews, I actually get the same vibes as from Sam Altman. Almost exactly same voice. The way they look and try to be handsome and nice while straightly telling lies to your face... Scary stuff.
- spopejoy 26d agoShe also has the SBF "reallllly believe my own BS/drink my own urine" story. I think it's probably true of every con(wo)man out there? You probably can't really con people if you're not genuinely sociopathic.
- calenti 26d agoElizabeth Holmes is beautiful. Amanda Seyfried did a good job of capturing her persona in The Dropout, and Holmes is a narcissistic self-deluding villain in the story from anyone else's perspective, but she is really just beautiful. I can see where her presence charmed people into seeing what she believed.
