Schrödinger: The Nvidia biotech partner Jensen Huang told to "think bigger"
- amelius 2y agoNegative points for that company name.
- jgalt212 2y agoHow can you be so sure about that?
- pinkmuffinere 2y agosurely it should be +/- points for the company name
- amelius 2y agoIn my version of the multiverse, it turned out to be -
- nijuashi 2y agoI think the article correctly points out the problem with the story of the company. At least to investors, their effort looks too unfocused by trying to be everything at once. Is it a software company or biotech company? I guess you’ll have to open the box to find out.
- colingauvin 2y agoFrom my observations, I think Cony is very quick to identify when a particular technology has outpaced the rest is the portfolio, and so he is very quick to spin up a new venture to try and capitalize on that, rather than waiting for the rest of the portfolio to catch up and deliver. How many useful technologies were created in pursuit of a goal that ultimately was never realized, but were later repurposed into something incredible in an entirely different field or market? My guess is (and this is just a guess), that the newcos were attempts to capitalize on technology created in pursuit of other goals. If you need 5 things to come together to design a drug, and you only get 3 of them, you may fail to get the drug, but you still have 3 pieces of valuable technology that it might make sense to commercialize. Also, biotech failure rate is up there with restaurants. It's always a roll of the dice....so if you can roll more dice for marginal cost, its basically always a good idea.
- notfed 2y ago> Schrödinger (NASDAQ: $SDGR) uses quantum mechanics to design new medicines and materials. Schrödinger is also a key AI winner. So like Theranos? But with all the latest marketing buzzwords.
- nijuashi 2y agoThe company is an established leader in molecular design software suite. Everyone uses their docking software.

- the__alchemist 2y agoThere is also another definition you may or may not find as interesting!

- colingauvin 2y agoNot remotely, Schrödinger is well established and basically leads the commoditized computational chemistry market. In fact, there are very many companies that would love to find a cheaper alternative to Schrödinger tools, but no alternatives are performant enough.

- npalli 2y ago“Think bigger” - what do you mean Jensen? “I mean, buy more Nvidia GPUs” - Jensen.
- ks2048 2y agoMy message to Huang after spending hours trying to get nvidia/cuda drivers installed: think better.
- throwaway314155 2y agoYa know I used to have these types of issues more often but I was a.) on PopOS instead of arch (which i use now) and b.) it was awhile ago and the software seemed to have matured a bit. As such, Im a little surprised to see someone blaming Nvidia specifically for issues rather than Windows, WSL, or any distribution of linux that makes it difficult to install software outside of the official channels (e.g. debian variants). Can you elaborate on the context?
- sheepdestroyer 2y agoSeems sensible to blame Nvidia for driver issues while everyone else provide upstream kernel and userspace drivers nowadays. Linus expressed clearly what many feel on the matter.
- 7speter 2y agoPOPos has a nvidia iso? I haven’t used it but did things go awry for you using that?
- throwaway314155 2y agoA few times. Hence the switching to Arch.
- the__alchemist 2y agoWhat trouble did you have?
- LarsDu88 2y agoIf you're all wondering why that company name is a bad one, I would urge you not to look into the personal life that that particular scientist.
- arolihas 2y agoThat sounds completely irrelevant to the company.
- yuppiepuppie 2y agoWhich part? The one where he had a kid with his colleagues wife? Or the one where he was "petting and cuddling" 14 year old girls he tutored?
- arolihas 2y agoBoth parts are completely irrelevant to the company yeah.
- LarsDu88 2y agoWell I did say DON'T look into it, but ya'll had go ahead and Streisand this.
- arolihas 2y agoYou’ve got 88 in your name bro DON’T look into that
- LarsDu88 2y agoThis was actually the year I was born. Also very auspicious if you're Chinese. I'd be the most asian white supremacist north of Tila Tequila if this was actually a coded Neo Nazi user handle. (Also, don't look up Tila Tequila Nazi's you won't like what you find)

- integricho 2y agowhat I read basically is Jensen bullied Huang into buying more GPUs and embracing the AI crapware.
- deleted 2y ago[deleted]
- coolspot 2y ago> basically is Jensen bullied Huang into buying more GPUs Jensen is Huang. Jensen Huang is NVidia’s CEO. Schrödinger’s CEO is Ramy Farid
- integricho 2y agoyeah I messed that up, but your correction is right and is what I meant :)
- 0dayz 2y agoI do think you have to have a split personality a la Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in order to be CEO of nvidia. You can clearly see this struggle for control anytime poor Huang has to a present new GPU, the evil Jensen comes roaring out "the more you buy... More you save".
- djmips 2y agoTrying to grab some marketing shine from dropping names of market juggernaut Nvidia and CEO
