I'm a car enthusiast, and I was a manual transmission purist for many, many years. But then I had to be honest with myself, and admit that the VAST majority of my driving is commuting in traffic. And that driving is much less annoying

I take it you don't spend a lot of time on car forums. People complain about this kind of stuff all the time.

Those cost of living things never make sense to me. Housing isn't the only cost in our lives. When I want to buy a car, computer, cell phone, or vacation, they cost exactly the same whether I live in California or Georgia (ok, sales ta

I'm less worried about the creepy factor, and more about the nuance that I think would be hard to encapsulate in a user profile. There are a lot of complex factors that go into a decision. It can't be boiled down to "I always

The number one "family tech support" question I get these days is "why doesn't my internet work?" Usually meaning it's too slow, drops out, or doesn't work in certain parts of the house. Often they've

Even when price is no concern to me, I am pretty picky about the exact arrangements. Which seats at the concert? Which restaurant, what reservation time? Which airline and seat on the plane (for the also common travel example)? Etc. Yeah, I

Dismissing a company because one engineer there is bad at interviewing seems potentially short-sighted. First, you're getting a single data point. And second, how the person operates in interviews quite likely has nothing to do with ho

Admittedly I haven't tried the newest models, but my experience with Linksys hardware and either ddwrt or tomato was pretty bad. Run for a couple of days and then require a power cycle. Seemed like a hardware issue.

I hate the camera bulge, but I've had an iPhone 6 since they first day they were available, and the camera lens is still in pristine shape with no case, and no particularly special care.

I use FreeBSD+ZFS rather than FreeNAS, but it's the same idea. I store all of my photos and videos, all of my music, and all of my movies. The music and movies are served via Plex and Sonos to various parts of the house, and I use Ligh

I think expecting business to know what they want is a mistake. I'm not much of an agile true believer, but as a former developer who is now "management" (shudder), I have never-ending frustration when teams expect full, pe

The big tech companies are VERY standardized in their compensation for new grads. I guarantee you that at the one I know in the most detail, the base salary for a new grad is a bit over $100k. Add bonus and stock, and it's pretty easy
