OK - I think we can all agree that it is hard - but still we need to do something about it. The question is who is in the best position to improve it. Customers will not put any meaningful pressure because they are too ignorant about what i

Decentralized is good for experimenting, testing all the possibilities in parallel. Once we have a working model - and one with network effects - the play is about squeezing the last bites of efficiency and that is better done centralized.

The part about the movements - agreed (maybe we need to add this to the machines to improve them) - but the rest is just about additional layers - machines are not restricted to just one layer neither.

"A human sees a 3D scene objects, creatures, texture and lighting (and it evaluates the scene based on these concepts and how they related to each other even if it's never seen green fields, sheep, dry stone walls or fog before).&

The key is the signaling aspect of it. If we buy stuff that in common imagination is linked to something - then people will perceive us linked to it as well. So it is not a mind trick - it really works - we pay for being perceived in a bett

Even not looking on the democratic/dictatorship spectrum - outside interference will always be worse than what you get from insiders. Insiders at least depend on the country welfare - outsiders just don't give a fuck.

There is a range - some cases are hard like armies and police - others are kind of easier to get rid of - like managers adding people to their department only to grow their prestige.

Having much stuff to do is not complex - complex is when you need a lot of work to understand your situation. Carrying water and washing clothes are not complex - they are easy to understand, both why you need to do them and how you do it.

I think it would be useful to divide that between jobs that are 'zero-sum', jobs that are useless for the people who do it because they don't understand what they are doing and jobs that are really just accidents. The root ca

Kind of light on details. My own impression of Hyperledger is that it is like the ISO OSI network layers - there is everything in it.

The traders get a discount when they lose and the margin call does not cover their loss. They can just walk away - while traditionally they would have to cover it all.

No - it is the gains that are taxed to pay for the losses. Traders who won will have slightly smaller rewards. This is actually better solution than the traditional way of forcing the losers to cover the whole loss. When you make a position

Accepting failure is the prerequisite of learning. This works great when people can do things mostly by themselves - they try something, they fail and learn. When the basic unit to do something becomes a company coordination becomes more im

This is probably true. In the past we have stable worldviews - but they were not very accurate, now we have much more information. It is now possible to build more accurate models of the reality - but overall do people build more accurate

I think there is some typo in your comment - because otherwise - do you mean that permissionless DLT was obvious (as in anyone who read Foundations of Cryptography by Oded Goldreich could create it) and bitcoin was not a breakthrough?

Matt Levine repeatedly writes about it with a very good explanation: it would be strange to think that companies should always grow - from time to time there are better investment opportunities outside the company and it makes sense that in

My point was that military is a zero-sum (or technically negative sum) in the game between nations (that was the meaning 'on a bigger scale').

Which particular one you think is not zero-sum? Military is kind of obviously zero-sum - the others are a bit more mixed - but the waste is in their zero-sum function (and the examples are not mine - they are from the article).

I don't know - I can imagine that instead of consuming people spend money on investment - i.e. buying machinery etc. - companies produce machinery instead of consumer goods and the economy works as if nothing happened.
