They removed the human from the car. There’s still humans to recover from the edge cases. I don’t know if they actually remote control the cars or if they have to send a driver though.

It makes a difference because policy changes don’t happen instantly. Something we can do differently that seems obvious today could have been a disastrous policy just a few years ago. The optics of the IRS sending out bills for thousands o

A layoff doesn’t mean you over-hired for the market conditions which were present when the hiring happened. And under-hiring today because your crystal ball says market conditions will deteriorate in the future is also not always the best c

Sadly I think it’s just human nature. Problems always look easy from the outside. Underdogs which are at first rooted for, if they succeed enough, become reviled. New things that challenge the status quo are scary and vilified. In the end…

I see it completely differently. Up until Tesla made it possible, no one would ever even imagine buying a car based on functionality that would be added later . It was simply never done. Tesla pioneered the model of a unified fleet softwar

What does “running the driver in hard mode as much as possible” mean? Why do you think Tesla’s approach “didn’t work and they are now dead last in the game?” Maybe that’s just an opinion because you provided nothing to back it up - but I c

I didn’t realize Tesla’s team was so small. Both companies have truly done incredible work! It’s funny watching HN comments trying to tear down Musk and Tesla while their software—which has driven billions of miles—continues to just get bet

I disagree with this on two levels. First the idea of "finished" is not how technology works. Technology is constantly evolving and improving, whether we are talking about Level 2 ADAS technology, or Level 5 self driving. It will

This is a Washington Post article. Instead they claimed it was “allowing disinformation in 2016” that contributed to problems - what a joke they are still trying to push that narrative.

Level 5 self driving is just the final step on the very broad spectrum of life saving driver assistance software. ADAS software is already required in all new cars sold in the US and EU. And just this week for example Tesla released an up

Except fridges don’t kill 40,000 people a year. NHTSA says that improved safety technologies have saved over 600,000 lives between 1960 and 2012. Updates make the car safer for the driver, and safer for everyone they share the road with. Up
