The machine generated content was already bad. I don't know if this AI transition will make it better or worse but I swear Duolingo was among the worst of apps I tried. People say it's ok to use supplementary when you have a 10 or

Man people are nostalgic about the most bizarre things sometimes. My experience with WordPad was accidently opening something with it and having to change the default app for some extension.

This seems like it will clutter code. I wish it was more terse as I find modern C++ code bases to be way too verbose already. It starts to get straining when looking at new modules.

I realize this. But C's new feature lists get smaller and smaller and are a lot more sane. https://en.cppreference.com/w/c/23 Meanwhile C++ just added for loop scoped typedefs. for (typedef int Points; Po

I can't. My company doesn't allow me to use whatever languages I want and my experience is in a niche industry.

Serious question. Is the committee ok with just adding features forever or do they realize they have to stop at some point?

Why do comments like this always ignore the obvious solution of using an IDE like code with a vim plugin. And yes that's more efficient.

Every nontechnical article is full of selective quotes, from borderline random people, which have no place in an encyclopedia. An encyclopedia has facts. That's not what Wikipedia even tries to do. If it wasn't auch a great source

I think it does a lot of harm along with the good. They don't seem to enforce much for policies that bias any article that's non-technical. Also they redonate a lot of donated money, some of which goes to some dubious places. I wo

There's a dozen resources you can use to learn the language and Duolingo is possibly the worst. Learning a language takes a lot of effort, especially if you're not in a country where it's spoken. Being efficient and persisten

I wish steam didn't have an effective monopoly on PC video game distribution. It was basically forced on us when CS 1.6 required it. But people will choose the option even slightly more convenient for them against ethical costs. I freq

Blatant propaganda which seems inappropriate for hacker news. The language in the article is offensively biased.

If I look up lyrics to a song that's in a different language it will display the lyrics, but only chrome will offer the ability to click a button and translate.

It seemed very clear to me from his comment that his justification didn't revolve around him getting angry personally, but the harm these features cause over time. With that being said, your post seems disingenuous. I personally don&#x

> How does that sound? It sounds hypothetical. You said herd immunity involves a good fraction of the population dying which you don't know. Serious complications for the non-risk population is neither known nor expected.

Herd immunity is absolutely not a failure. The point is to have young healthy people get the virus who will neither die, nor require hospitalization. Once this population has substantial immunity, risk drops drastically for the at risk peop

I thought this would be about light polution. The fact that we can't often see the stars at all, even on clear nights, is a much more dystopian issue in my opinion. I don't think lights off at night would be as big a deal as peopl

This is nice, but all I really want is the ability to nicely see both English and German subtitles simultaneously. This is overkill for me and requires me to use chrome. Is anyone aware of a better solution for me?

You are picking out exceptions. The parent didn't say it's not possible to make money in these spaces, just that OSS is eating it up. And desktop operating systems are in the small minority of all operating systems in use today.

I assumed this would be more personal. People expressing anger, depression, etc. This seems to be rants about things they find mildly annoying. Not sure if the site wants or will encourage/enforce one or the others.

Actually I wish they would say what they know about our online activity. The answer can't be as they said. They do collect some (telemetry and Mozilla accounts). I don't think it's much but it would be nice to know.

The wolf has little choice. You do but choose pain for others for hedonistic reasons. The agriculture industry is outrageously more cruel than a pack of wolves killing an elk. My expectation is for people to choose the path of least sufferi

It's nice they have this freedom, but for a while now, it's been harder and harder to find a truly coherent album. Something that you can leave on and feels like a single piece of work.

If C++ is just as fast as C except when it's not, then it's not as fast as C. More importantly, it's not easy to tell when you're going to hit performance issues with C++. You need an obscene amount of knowledge of both
