If you don't use 95% of the language, can you really consider yourself to be using it? Sounds like you're basically using C with some wrappers.

I write C++ for a living but feel out of the loop. Do people still select C++ for new projects? Seems a waste when so many people have put effort into replacing it with something modern. I still learn dark corners and pitfalls almost weekly

The first langauge you learn should have you spending your time learning how to structure your code and build things from primitives. These are valuable lessons that will stick with you wherever you go. If you learn a complicated langauge l

Why would we assume this? A kernel is absolutely an operating system.

It has the capability of changing you mentally permanently. It can change it for the better, or for worse, and it doesn't take that many times. It takes longer for alcohol to change you. Physically, you're absolutely right though.

Cheese isn't the same as gimmicks. I'm talking about abilities that change the game. There are more in sc2.

The fact that arbiters are stronger or weaker than the equivalent abilities in SCII isn't the issue. The issue is getting the AI tech to the point where it can figure out that you have to sac a base because it will waste time sending y

What's going to be uninteresting is when their AI can never get past bronze league because the AI can't figure out that his bunker is going to get force-fielded or that observer is going to be used for a blink all-in.

They are planning on limiting the APM of the AI anyway. With BW, you can focus on an AI learning basic strategy with incomplete information. With SC2, you mix in a hole assortment of figuring out how crazy abilities like force fields and re

They really should have used BroodWar for deep mind. SCII is way too volatile. Way more gimmicks available that will make it difficult for AI to come close to a human player.

Linus's law says that if enough people look at something, the bugs will appear. But often not very many people are actually looking at the source code of open source software. So there is no contradiction here.

I have a hard time with people who believe everything in life is a competition. At work, they have to get ahead. At home, they still have to get ahead. When they eat breakfast, they have to do it better than you. We need to teach people to

You want them to get a heart attack instead? Lots of cultures have good breakfast that don't rely on sugar or cholesterol. Look to the Mediterranean/Middle East/Central Asia/Far East.

Ethically do you even have to cite something properly when the person who solved it was intentionally anonymous? If the concern is that people will think the person writing solved it, they can just write a sentence where it came from.
