I think TFA gets it all wrong. It's not that SQL databases do not scale per se , they just can't arbitrarily scale. Most applications today manage pretty well with nothing more than sharding and replication. Sure, it's not the optimal solu

Obviously we need low level languages. Assembly and C are beautiful languages, even compared to other high level ones. I enjoyed every minute of learning them. Deep knowledge of C++ is something I would love to have, and I have much respect

Oh, C++. I do not like that language. I have always felt that C++ is a language too complicated in a time where keeping it simple is key. The fact that it needs a style guide that long says it all.

Actually, I think StackExchange is doing just fine. Going for the vertical communities (which have some overlap, no doubt) is a very clever strategy - it works . Pray tell exactly what Quora is achieving with its strategy. Right now it loo

A friend of mine wrote up a very nice review of his experience with Startup Chile [1]. If you're looking for an objective review from the eyes of a founder, check it out. [1] - http://www.shaharnechmad.com/2011/02/19/building-your-dreams..

Idea is nice. Personally, I want to know exactly what I'm getting before I shell out a few $$ to figure exactly what vulnerabilities my site has.

You are asking as if synthetic pop stars are a creation of the past two years. It's only the marketing channels that have changed.

Let's admit it. Once Django is Py3K-ready, all other projects will follow suit.

TFA discusses why engineers are better off joining a startup rather then some bigco . Why not take it further, and explain why joining a startup is better starting one?

This decompiled output shows a very nice example where C can really be no more than "glorified assembly". (Anyone help me with proper attribution for the quote?)

I am curious as to why you need to deploy on OS X. Is this some sort of service which is tightly coupled to OS X-specific dependencies?

In this context it's worth noting that writing a memoizing decorator in Python is ridiculously easy: class memoized(object): def __init__(self, func): self.func = func self.cache = {} def __call__(self, *args):

This cannot be stressed enough. However, developing open protocols is not sexy . Developing a Facebook clone with privacy controls upfront is more so.

This kind of stuff always blows my mind away. How insignificant we all are, in the grand scheme of things. (Then my mind overflows when I ask myself the question of "what the hell is the universe?")
