That's absurd, the ops tooling is top notch and claiming python deployments are better is laughable. FlightRecorder, single jar deployables, the JDK cli utils to get stacktraces and heap dumps etc are good. No npm getting a zillion fil

The dependence is true, but I feel like this was accepted by most with the hope that economic integration of russia would avoid war in europe. Losing so much business would be a deterrent. I and many other, probably mistakenly, believed thi

Were samsung and WD consistent in this or did you have drives from them that behaved differently?

This is short sighted. Teams do not build everything from scratch, probably most shipped executables are 90% outside libraries, open source or not. Code being predictable is a huge win, not only with other people but also with your own code

Java programs are usually daemons and internally use a logging library, per default stdout is set up as one output for logging. One can usually configure the logging with the log4j or logback config files and even suppress stdout.

Yeah, keep writing perl and spout cynicism about everything. I feel like they are chasing a aesthetic of conciseness, their perfect little haskell program, not recognizing that regularity and good api design are much more important. What is

Apple could start allowing users to disable internet access for an app. Before that happens Apple's privacy campaign is just a lot of hot air.

Hahahaha, also had a moto z with the same problem. I think the sensor driver got confused when the pins bumped and stopped working until a reboot for me.

FAANG are the worst offenders. Didn't facebook employ ungodly hacks to unload/load parts of the android app to navigate around the 65k method limit of dex? Have you looked at the js monstrosity of the Google hardware shop website?

There is precedent, IBM was pretty glad in hindsight that Codd got a PhD. I remember the anecdode only vaguely though. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edgar_F._Codd

You can set the calibration mode to manual using either the serial port or a pin on the mh-z19. Mine is configured to manual and after a few months it still reads reasonable values for outside air. But yes, the default is autocalibration. B

Nice, I built a radix version of this in 2013. It didn't have a GC though (was left for later :D) Mine was networked as an overlay to a linearizable range scannable kv-store with single-writer multiple-reader access and a three party m

That can be achieved by linux dropping support for architectures not supported by rust :D I'm joking of course, but the platform support list of rust is pretty good looking at [1]. I'm pretty sure people developing for arm5 aren&#

Love the technical insights, but I comment here to praise the presentation style. My first judgement was that it seemed a bit rehearsed, but I ended up really enjoying the style. It felt very respectful of my time as a viewer, very concise

The tone of the article makes it incredibly annoying and the author 100% lands on the hall of shame list of ridiculous benchmarks he mentioned. tf-idf and phrase search alone make lucene 10x better, not speaking of the compression, fuzzy se

This is a linux kernel compilation benchmark comparing build tools of amd64-glibc, x32-glibc and x32-musl. x32-glibc is about 10% faster than amd64-glibc, but surprisingly x32-musl is 40% slower than the glibc time. Author mentions that it
