If you collect emails with an opt-out method you shouldn't complain when some people flag you for spam. Paying customers didn't unsubscribe because they obviously had a higher level of engagement with the service. Of course free users won't

Google donates to many people on both sides - it doesn't mean they support SOPA. For example, they donated more than 6x that amount to Zoe Lofgren: http://www.opensecrets.org/politicians/contrib.php?cycle=Car...

Majority rule can become toxic by steamrolling minorities. For instance, just because the majority of the United States is caucasian doesn't mean the U.S. should pass laws favoring white people over other races. Incidentally one of the reas

Do you really think that any SOPA supporter is going to say they want to stifle innovation in favor of more litigation? "There are PLENTY of senators and other opinion leaders who would nod at these points" This is exactly what I'm saying.

Just because a congressman opposes SOPA doesn't make his statements magically profound. Although the direction of his statement is intelligent, his four points at the end are far too vague to be useful. Phrases like "consider instead promot

On a surface level, most of the items on this list are pretty absurd. Sites like Facebook, Amazon, and Youtube aren't immediately going down as soon as SOPA passes, except the torrent sites. There's a good chance they won't be affected at a

"It’s called mydunks.it. It’s better than NBA jam. It’s a universal 'like' button for the web, but instead of ‘likes’ it’s 'dunks.'" I just about spat out my coffee until I realized he was joking.

If SOPA's passed, what kind of example would the United States set for the rest of the world, especially after all our criticism of China's internet censorship? http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20111208/07411217009/chines... The effects o

It's a great emotional tool to bring tangible people into the discussion. Although having powerful statistics and logic is nice, it's appealing to see the faces of real people that would be affected by this bill. I can't find it now, but th

Point taken. Just wanted to bring up the idea that there are other considerations besides just productivity that might affect a company's policies.

In my experience, face time is very important in an organization and it's not just about productivity. It's very hard to effectively motivate people and align the company's vision if half of your employees aren't even there.

Wow. His simple tone belies the brilliance in his writing here. I seriously doubt he just spent 5 minutes scribbling this out as an afterthought. He gets a few key ideas across: - he doesn't understand torrenting and so is helpless against

Is this true? I was under the impression that if we used Stripe's javascript function to tokenize credit cards, we get to skip a lot of PCI compliance stuff we would otherwise be responsible for.

This whole thing is really juvenile. The Zendesk guys look a lot worse here, but by making such a big deal out of it and turning it into an obvious PR stunt the Freshdesk folks aren't doing themselves any favors either. I understand it's di

I'm curious. In your experience, was it just those activities (Violin, cello, piano, etc) that were beaten to death and no longer desirable, or was more about the uniformity of Asian applicants? For example, if a white kid had the same pian

Is it possible to parse page content when bookmarking and automatically assign it an appropriate category or pre-populate a few tags? I would find this highly useful, but I don't know how practical it would be to develop.
