I have a Volvo XC40. AFAIK, high beam assist in Volvo is matrix based (you keep having visibility of what’s in front). My Volvo (and I guess subaru) don’t market their ADAS as “autopilot” or “self driving”.

Given Teslas “only camera” approach to ADAS, high-beam assist looks like an obvious point of failure. How is your car going to stop if it can’t really see what’s in front?

Given some of the devices I’ve seen these ICs, the fact that they were fake is a problem, no matter if they work reasonably well.

If I’m spending thousands of dollars on these devices, I expect them to not screw up something like that. It would not be the first time someone sends a device for RMA to be told it’s out of warranty because it has been tampered, when in re

Although it would be much ( much ) more elaborate, a counterfeit BMC could have hidden ROMs or bootloaders capable of opening backdoors into running machines.

These “dumb SoCs” are one of the biggest security holes in a lot of high end equipment. It would not be the first time someone finds exploitable firmware bugs and vulnerable BMCs through Shodan.

It says “founded”. Their terms of service point to Analogue Enterprises Limited, registered in HK. Founded is a typical weasel word because people tend to be more trusting of american companies.

Regulatory capture is impossible without government enforcement. The way to fight it is not by giving more powers to government but giving less.

Parent called it a return. The “return”, or benefit of the operation can’t be properly understood without taking into account that you’ve taken that 20M$ from some people to give it to (presumably) others.
