Ugh. Has this author ever visited LA? The entire city / culture is built around using a car to get to places. This article does nothing to address that, other than a few whimpy shoutouts to build more “convenient” public transit. Appar

So what’s the alternative? Suppose we banish all private land ownership in San Francisco. What then? It seems like demand for space is so high people would fight each other to carve out their space. And if you build a house what would stop

Eventually the piper needs to be paid. If people are taking more measured risks in search of growth vs outlandish, then eventually we will see a gradual contraction vs sharp correction. They will expand bit by bit into risky waters, get h

I respect the hell out of this author but this article to me fell a little short of his usual rigor/insight. Two points I would’ve like to see him analyze given the AWS metaphor 1) gross margins - this article reports 15-20% not 30% AW

What’s to stop exporting companies from increasing prices? Say I’m a Chinese manufacturer of plates. I have an American customer buying 6m yuan worth every year. Previously that cost them $1m USD. Now it only costs them $857k. In both cas

I agree. For the two recessions I’ve lived through, we didn’t arrive at them with everyone well aware it was going to happen. They snuck up and took the country by surprise. The tech bubble burst, and the real estate subprime bubble burst.

Here's the funny thing about recessions - they're usually predicated by some exuberance somewhere, and when it bursts it then ripples to the rest of the economy. 1930 was the stock market, 2000 was the dot com, 2007 was real estat
