These aren't great to be honest. I've scanned through them in the past and there's a ton of missing stuff. You can read these and know what stuff is and how it works but not how to use it or any practical concerns. This is ju

I've built commercial designs using that approach no problems at all. Most of my crap is built on PCB blanks and I have to spend some time reverse engineering it after I'm done. Picture straight off my bench: http://i.

Seriously it's completely fine in the digital domain if the boards are relatively new, aren't crap (i.e. are Wisher/3M boards without those awful phosphor bronze contacts) and you're under about 10MHz and have enough dec

Windows has by far the best solution to this since Windows Vista/2008 server. Full instance control provided by the OS, fully scriptable with powershell, desired state configuration (like ansible), clustering, logging, fully event driv

I thought that. Then living in the UK our first 32-bit ARM personal computers turned up in 1987. They even ran rings around high end Unix kit. And here I am in 2015 typing this on a 32-bit ARM A7...

This. We use microservices but we do allow services to call services. All endpoint and data contracts exist separately to services and are used by both the service provider (server) and a consumer so all internal contracts are enforced. Tha

When I was at school we were supposed to build a robot that put out a candle. Basically an LDR guided squirter. Mine used an aerosol and a lighter until I got told off. Someone had to relight the candles. So that idea is right up my street

That's really nice. This is a royal PITA with .net and nuget and I've get to find a half decent solution that allows you to actually have the source rather than a bunch of symbol-less dll dependencies or a ridiculous build stack.

We are indeed a rotten place but its not because of CCTV and surveillance. This is just a symptom of deeper problems in society.

To be fair, as an ex-Nottingham resident, putting a CCTV camera up made life better for us. There were crack whores jacking up on heroin on my doorstep because there was a light there. Eventually I took the bulb out. Mapperley Road for refe

Actually most of it is talk, then a hastily pushed through bill, then a technological measure, then a pile of consultancy, then a pile of tendering, then armies of consultants filing expenses for 5 years, then a royal fuck up due to nothing
