You can also just get a used laptop that's 3-4 years old with 8-16gb of ram, and SSD, and some i7 or equivalent CPU for $300. They're insanely fast. Used laptops are dirt cheap. You can then just sell it after a few years and get

Isn't javas DX pretty great? I mean not the huge XML heavy frameworks but Java itself and the IDEs work well...

Yeah, that's not what this is for. This is more for "I have one DC in US and one in EU, and so on, with completely different customers, but if I need to I can access the data from any region anywhere".

Yeah, there is. PG has its own warts that Mongo does not have. Also the JSONB query language sucks. See appending an array in PG [0] vs Mongo [1]. Also PG does not provide a way to atomically append to the array, you have to lock the row vi

I have DB clusters with masters with a terrabyte of ram. Going beyond that is a PITA with warming up cache, backups, and so on. There is a reason there's a huge industry for shared databases. Also, query for query, Mongo isn't goi

Sometimes this is the case but not always... It's nice to just work with objects in some languages... for some projects. That's engineering - picking trade offs :)

oh this is neat! I've been trying to figure out a nice way to package Django + Django Unicorn into a portable app and then sync the sqlitedb to the remote server.

It's a cool project. If you don't need a ton of capacity what I did in the past is used a bucket and just some rubber tubing. Once you pull the water through, it will auto-siphon to be the same level as the bucket. Lasted me a wee

The core of your argument is that it's the worker deciding this, and that they don't want to fix issues over the weekend. That's not true. It's the business deciding that they don't want to ship bugs on Fridays and

Pretty much anything will work at that scale depending on your SLAs. You could use Mongo with the higher compression option, add a couple indexes, and be golden. Just do the reporting off a live secondary. I store billions of documents in M

Same. I imagine it would be very entertaining. It could be useful to at least create a list of potential action items, but I definitely wouldn't be wanting to spend tons of time fighting some PM on why the LLM said this or that. "
