Yeah I see your issue. You're not using the right connectors. https://www.amazon.com/JRready-Connector-Waterproof-Electric... The cheaper knock offs can work well, too.

Soldered connections are a no go in automotive. Crimped is way tougher for vibrations. Corrosion shouldn't be getting in with heat shrink or a good connector.

Some of our infra at FastComments handles the SSL termination itself, it's really nice owning that in the app layer and removing another component. Yes, we use LetsEncrypt. Those are Java vertx apps. Good thing I didn't move them

embedded system engineers have always had low salaries... I don't think I've ever seen an embedded C or C++ job pay more than $130k. I made more than that writing JS almost ten years ago..

well, no. This is because there's a cap (albeit very high these days) scaling vertically - but the bigger advantage is you can also variably scale the application. It's a much bigger pain to scale up and down your DB instance with

Agreed. Way easier to optimize this one thing than redesigning your application every few years...

Easier to scale application CPU usage horizontally than a single instance DB.

Yes, you can go very deep in both front and back end. But the concepts are almost the same... as someone that has had "careers" doing both pixel perfect UIs and large distributed systems on the backend (hundreds of machines, milli

It looks like for something the size of a UUID on Node 18, on my 8th Gen i7 (main machine broken) MD5 is only 10% faster. I guess I was remembering a time when it was like twice as fast... Neat. :)

That's dumb. Security is not a component here. They literally just want to put the files into buckets because filesystem. Also MD5 is much faster in my experience and on any benchmark I can find.

It could be they didn't want to explain the md5 usage, yeah. But that's kinda nuts if they do this every query.

This has nothing to do with security. It's just wasted CPU. I imagine you have to do this every time you make a query to lookup the users DB? Security is not a concern here. It's just literally bucketing ids. Also, this is not nee

There's nothing about security here. By this logic you should probably stop using hashmaps, then? :)

Why sha256 hash the user into to get a two character target directory? Wouldn't md5 be much faster and solve the same problem?
