Why is there only one monolithic video clip which can't be scrubbed to skip ahead or go backwards? http://www.justin.tv/clip/2493eb6f993f6e24 And why is it only 2 hours long? Is there any place to watch the entirety of the day's talks?

Why didn't newspapers create Four Square or Yext or Craigslist or ____. Comfort with the status quo and a lack of vision, perhaps?

When he said 'turn into', I think he's asking why Geocities didn't evolve from 'static content to an anonymous audience' into 'dynamic content tailored to each individual users'. Geocities (Yahoo!), AOL, Xerox--the head of a long list of co

I think their main features were 'it's easy to use and pretty and it works well'. They cared a lot about those.

Just to be clear--with customer development, you don't ask customers for your vision. That's still the founders responsibility. So yes, I think @ev and @jack would have still written code. They would have then asked people (not laggards,

This makes us at Stormpulse really happy, since our map is written in ActionScript, and people have been screaming for an iPhone app.

Rambly while still communicating: + the problem + market size + distribution + salient features I'll take this 2 minutes over most of the TC50 demos.

But you're already talking about two very fine guns. Just because you have to consider trade-offs at that level doesn't mean there's no qualitative scale at all, does it?

Might not be good for the VC either, and some are smart enough to realize it. Google was VC funded but believes strongly in Data Liberation, AFAIK.

Staying on that subject of UI, why hasn't the iPhone UI been successfully copied? Jason Fried has said that "the copier doesn't know why the original looks the way it looks.", therefore superficial imitation is insufficient.

Completely agree. What I would give for 5 minutes of questions from PG about our startup! Maybe that's something he could auction off for charity? Bidding on office hours!

That's really fascinating--thanks for elaborating. That said, this isn't, for me, a strong refutation of design. Perhaps the designer's purpose was to create creatures with imperfections such as these, with the higher purpose of communicat

We are freemium--so if you care that much, you can pay. We also get a large volume of traffic, so it doesn't make much sense not to monetize it. By the way, the eyeQ ad is a direct sale to someone that cares a lot about severe weather. I a
