To chat with my friends I just use Facebook. I configured Messages (OS X) to receive its messages (Facebook uses Jabber). I also hang out on IRC, which I do most of my chatting on.

I did know about the _ being ignored in blocks. What I didn't know it that do |variable, (array, elements)| is valid syntax. That's so neat :)

I blame the traditional media for this one. The dutch media have been reporting on it for days before the event was supposed to happen. One media outlet even went as far as setting up a live stream for the "event". The traditional media hyp

I hate how it shows all freaking forks. Say I wanted to look for a theme for a particular piece of software. I'd have to wade trough the countless forks of the software in question, occasionally actually seeing a theme listed. It's terribru

The only thing I could think of was Ubuntu version 10.04. I doubt that explains it. I thought any variation on that (1.004, 10.04, 100.4) might have some significance in popular culture, like the 42 has, but didn't find anything. I'm curiou

Ah, I hadn't thought about that. I was about to write off this bulb as utterly ridiculous, but this might actually be useful for people with sleep problems.

I couldn't find an example of an artist page, so it's hard for me to evaluate. I have a question though. How are you ever going to compete to Bandcamp? From what I read, the services sound very similar, except Bandcamp does it all (well, al

The title is perhaps a bit misleading, but the article itself speaks of results instead of search/non-search. His claim is technically true. To be fair, he should have also calculated the space the ads take up. However, one can tell by eye

Even good craftsmen prefer top-notch tools over tools in bad shape. I don't know if PHP is in a particularly bad shape nowadays, since I haven't touched it since 2005, but I do know that tools are just as important as the end result.

I think it's helpful to make the assumed premises from both sides explicit. One is "a website like website x does anything it does to generate profit". That would be the side the OP takes. The other is "a website like website x does anythin

I use a master password for all the services I like to login to in to remotely (google, facebook, dropbox, etc), for the rest of the services I use 1Password. It's not the most secure, but it's the practical imo. If I happen to get hacked,

This is awesome, so much cleaner and easier to read. I hope it stays online. I'd make questions link to the original comment threads on Reddit, though. Sometimes comments by other users are useful too.

Depending on how far back the data goes, you could try to spot language trends trough time or make a pretty graph of the average article length trough time. I'm not that inspiring. I hope this'll get a follow up, I'm sure someone can think

I posted this in another thread about this service but wasn't answered. Seems like a really interesting site. Why the 5 song limit? I'd actually consider using it, if that limit weren't there :)

Apple's warranty policies in Europe are still a disgrace, unfortunately. The warranty on a laptop charger is only one year, instead of two, for example. They aren't cheap to replace either (€80 for a simple cable?!). The warranty on an iPod

I launched a simple app that puts new music releases in your iCal / Google Calendar or on a RSS Feed. It didn't really catch on, I've sort of given up. The UI kinda sucks too, I realised. http://nearupon.herokuapp.com/

This would be handy to adjust the volume or pause the currently playing track on your smartphone. It always kinda annoyed me that I had to take it out of my pocket to do that. It's a cool technology, but i think it won't be more useful or p
