We have an unmodified AT&T uverse wireless router, and had no problems getting through to the FaceTime demo guys this morning. Setting your iPhone to a static ip address and putting it in the dmz is an utterly crazy suggestion. Are you

Having queued for 7 hours yesterday to get my iPhone 4, I can confirm that the display actually exceeded my expectations. All natively rendered text in controls, etc., looks like it was printed in a magazine. This display is going to be hu

I've always held my 2G at the top of the phone, primarily to avoid attenuating the wi-fi noticeably, but also to reduce the energy being absorbed by my hand. Carrying this over to the iPhone 4.0 appears to completely avoid this 'problem'. I

Remember the mortgage is secured on the house, so in a non-recourse state, you can simply hand the house back to the lender and walk-away. This is how commercial real estate works. Can't fill the building? Hand it back to the lender.

Just upgraded my wife's 3G, and it feels great, but then I'm used to my original day 1 iPhone, so not really sure, but ios 4 on the 3G feels plenty fast to me.

What about amongst bored university students? My first job after lectures and eating lunch, was to read through the Times, Scotsman, Guardian and Independent. And this is back in the day when all these papers were in 'broadsheet' form, not

I watched my iPhone app sales rise, when I made my blurb on the app store simple and assertive. People respond to clear, strong sentences.

When the perceived worth of a piece of some 'internet action' was much higher, along with the 'barriers to entry' being perceived as much higher, of course IPOs did a lot better. Now, it's easier to grab a tiny slice of pie, either through

Yeah, after a few weeks of a clueless founder, and surrounded by our fellow 'agile' and 'rockstar' programmers, you might be longing for reassuringly foosball-free break-room, and the steady whir and click as the TPS reports roll into the o

It's a huge relief to look at a file on scribd and have the file be HTML, rather than flash. I used to avoid scribd, but now I'll happily use it. As well as the pauses and slowdowns, even the flash text rendering is wretchedly bad in compar

The use of ternary operators is a standard idiom, at least in C, and reduces the visual noise of if..then..else used to implement code like your example. Enforcing coding standards to ban the use of standard idiom is exactly the sort of r

Just so you know, my 'sofa laptop' is my wife's old 'day 1' 13" MacBook. Still trucking along! Great little machine. 4 years of use for $1099, and still runs XCode decently. Incredible value. Tip for people with multiple macs. If you want t

Quite possibly me, as I used to run one. Just checked my MBP, and it's a 17" 1920x1200. Bloody awesome screen. The Dell shades it though, being a 15" panel rather than a 17", which is a bit on the gigantic side.

They always remind me of Rolls Royce in that respect, merely asserting that 'adequate power is available'. I think the interesting thing is where they go from here. Apple being Apple, perhaps we'll have two years of iPhone 4 whilst they get

A great point, but car companies do iterate. The iteration just occurs over model years. Take the widely acclaimed Chevy Malibu as an example. This started off as a pretty cruddy GM, but now it's reputedly competitive with Japanese models

Aside from the admitted fail in building their own software, there's some good points in this article. In the world outside software, avoiding platforms can be equally hard. If you sell lawnmowers, cheap meat, car parts, then you may depend
