Japan followed the same story line initially. Camera manufacture started as either junk, or as cheaper copies of German (Leica) bodies and lenses. Car manufacture was in one case initially intertwined with licensed designs from the UK. In b

Windows is going to have to play nice with other technologies. To an extent, this is already in place, with technologies such as WCF that support web standards. I'm currently talking with a potential client about splitting out part of a Sil

My wife has okayed me buying an iPad. GPS is a non-negotiable requirement so a 16 gig 3G + GPS model will hopefully be gracing our living room soon. I fully expect it to largely replace my wife's MacBook. Let's face it, like her, most of us

I hope this is a better device than the abomination that is the Pan Digital photo frame my mother in law bought me for Christmas. Crappy hardware, ugly, difficult to use. I'm looking forward to a profusion of great (and open) tablets to c

Nicely picked up. Microsoft overreached with Vista, but I believe they've overreached with many other things. Joel Spolsky wrote a great essay on Microsoft's 'Fire and Motion' where they simply keep building new and deprecating old apis.

Steve Wereley's particle analysis estimate 70,000 bbls / day leakage. The much publicized 5,000 bbls/day figure is from a surface only estimate by NOAA. It's been discovered that much of the leak is forming large sub-surface slicks. One suc

Caught part of a MILT channel show from 2002 about the SR-71 / Lockheed Skunkworks. One thing I hadn't seen before was this... an unmanned drone, launched from the back of an SR-71, at Mach 2. What a country! http://www.sr-71.org/blackbird

It seems conceivable that everything functioned exactly as it was designed. As the Yen spiked, holders of much borrowed USD needed to liquidate and pay back their borrowings, and program selling snowballed across very very thin markets. Sev

The article makes it sound like much more than a novelty. I don't have an iPad yet, but I do use my Cuisinart bread-maker twice a week to make delicious and substantial wholewheat bread for way less than you would pay at a store.

What happens when someone has a name on a googlemail account, and that name was already taken in the gmail beta on the original gmail rollout in the US? I'd be really interested if someone from Google could address this.
