The NRE on consoles is pretty high, for the Nvidia tablets all the upfront costs of the OS have been fronted by Google and Nvidia hasn't been able to position their SoCs as a competitive processor given there have been almost no design

You're missing the fact that the lower costs of consoles(and support surrounding them) are subsidized by the restrictions that you're railing against. Take the switch, if you wanted to sell it as an "open" platform my gu

You should do this in both GC'd and non-GC'd languages. Obviously C/C++/etc give you more options for arenas and the like. If you have a well bounded upper limit there's a while lot of good reasons to preallocate(lo

The implicit opposite of natural is unnatural, which implies some sort of deviance from normal. Should we call all right-handed people "natural" and left-handed people something else? Convention since far back as I can remember(&#

Shame on the Surface Book 3 using Intel, after seeing what the new Ryzen 4800 looks like I don't think anyone serious about performance would be looking at Intel.

C++ isn't even 40 years old but if you've got some secret technique that has eluded modern software engineering then by all means feel free to share it with the class.

Eeeeh, still seeing signs of this in the NUC and Laptop space. For instance you can find a laptop with anything faster than a RTX 2060 despite 4800/4900HS completely thrashing the Intel line of laptop chips.

Yeah, as I've heard it described from other private pilots is that you should never have a hard requirement be in place X at Y time. In other words you should always be willing(and able) to cancel a flight under any circumstances or ar

Yeah, complacency and heavy machinery are a really bad combination. Even a smaller CUT can do an incredible amount of damage in a short period of time.

You alluded to it but the other difference is MoCA is shielded, EoP turns your house wires into a ton of radiating antennas across the frequency bands. I still have no idea how the FCC even approved the damn things after seeing what they do

Honestly if I'm running a cable I'd rather run PoE over RJ45 and just have a second AP. PoE powered APs are cheap enough these days.

Isn't that kinda the point of a uniform code of building? At least here the county code requires larger studs and windload due to the weather we get.

That's not even the real benefit you get. What you really get is the ability to specify memory locality which easily has a 10-30x performance impact.

I have the opposite problem, spent most of my early career in win32 and x360. Having been on Linux derivatives for the last ~10 years I've yet to see debugging tools as good as Pix or Visual Studio.

Power roughly correlates to amplitude. On the transmitter side keeping the signal linear means you generally don't see great efficiency in terms of power in -> power radiated.
